RIM Releases Another BlackBerry 6 Teaser Video
Jul 12th
Research in Motion (RIM) just posted another BlackBerry 6 video which gives us a better look at the upcoming OS. Luckily unlike the last video, this one has much less dancing and booty checking and instead shows the interface floating in space, blazing through features. Things are looking pretty good but remember, this is just a mockup and certainly doesn’t mean the on-device experience will be as buttery as what we are seeing here. The OS certainly does look to be more touchscreen-friendly than previous versions of the BlackBerry OS, but how well it will operate on QWERTY devices that are controlled with a trackpad is still unclear to me.
Hit the break for the video, and sound off in the comments with your thoughts.

YouTube Mobile Updates With HTML5 for iPhone and Android Devices
Jul 7th
YouTube today revamped their mobile website for WebKit browser-equipped devices, specifically the iPhone and devices running Google’s Android OS. The new site uses HTML5 for video viewing which allows mobile browsers to view YouTube videos without the need for flash capabilities. With the new version of YouTube’s mobile site, even the native Android YouTube application seems unnecessary and outdated, not to mention the iPhone’s app, which hasn’t seen a significant update since it’s introduction on the original iPhone. The new mobile version of YouTube also allows high quality video to stream over 3G, whereas the iPhone’s YouTube application limits this functionality to WiFi connections. The mobile site also allows users to subscribe to user’s YouTube channels from the browser, as well as like/unlike individual videos.
Check out the video of YouTube’s new mobile site in action on both the iPhone and Nexus One after the break, and feel free to give m.google.com a looksy if you have one of those newfangled iPhones or Android handsets.
How Will The iPhone 4G’s Front Facing Camera Work?
May 28th
Knowing about video call debug logs and the obvious inclusion of a front facing camera, we can pretty much say, the iPhone will have video chat. My question is how will it work? Unfortunately I have more questions than answers…
1. Will it work with other video conferencing phones? If so, will this be a carrier supported thing or will they need an application? I’ve heard that with other video phones, they can exclusively video conference with the same type of phone and no one else.
2. If this is going to be an exclusive iPhone to iPhone deal, will older iPhones be able to see the camera from new iPhones?
3. Will developers have access to this camera? Subsequently, will Skype and the others implement?
4. Wifi only? Works on 3G?
5. Will it use your carrier minutes? It appears that the video debug logs leak called them “Video Calls,” suggesting it might be an network thing.
6. Is it only one on one or can multiple people be supported?
7. Will there be any kind of screensharing support, a la iChat theater?
With no answers to any of these questions, my mind is starting to wonder the possibilities. Shoot, it just makes me want the new iPhone to come out already so we’ll know! Video phones aren’t anything completely new or revolutionary, but the iPhone will most likely be the first (American) phone to make it popular/standard.
Second iPhone HD Bought In Vietnam (With Video!)
May 12th
Gizmodo, eat your heart out. Looks like a man in Vietnam has an iPhone prototype of his own reportedly paying $4,000 for it. Sources are saying that it’s slightly different from the Gizmodo model since it, well, works. Cosmetically, the screws on the bottom end of the device have been hidden and the actual storage capacity is listed (instead of XXGB); suggesting a newer prototype version. Furthermore, everyone seems to be all atwitter over Apple’s A4 processor supposedly being in the device. The software on the device is inoperable and just runs something called “Bonfire.” So we cannot see the front facing camera in action, or the flash.
Photos, video and more after the break.
Here’s the translated text from the forum where the news broke:
IPhone second generation appeared in Vietnam 4
After appearing on Gizmodo, 4th-generation iPhone also appeared in Vietnam. The images from diendanapple.vn for similar machines MicroSIM iPad, a front camera for video phone, the back with flash photography at night and especially on the back is made of scratch-resistant sapphire. 16GB capacity is just not double up as a traditional 32GB Apple increased each year. Nonetheless, this 16GB figure shown here is almost complete rather than the more XXGB before. Subtle attempts to synthesize and search “hit area” in the phone as soon as possible. Sources said some machines are being offered for sale for about $ 4,000 in the U.S. black market.
It’s a little bit rough, but the point gets across. We can all be pretty sure that this is not some hoax, this is undeniably the next iPhone. I’d be lying if I said the design didn’t get me excited. It so very much does. That being said, seeing this stuff break early is a bit heart breaking. Like finding your birthday presents three months early in your parent’s closet. The whole ordeal is too soon and ruins the surprise.
Video First-Look: Dolphin HD Browser For Android 2.0+
May 8th
Dolphin has always been one of the more mature, popular browsers for Android. Around since near its inception, it’s garnered almost a million downloads, without receiving the same kind of press as Opera Mini or more recently, Skyfire. But Dolphin’s capabilities have actually been lauded and copied on almost all the 3rd-party browsers released since, from xScope (which I use as my default browser) to Skyfire itself. It’s supported multitouch and gestures to make browsing quicker and more intuitive, and now, Dolphin HD has been released.
Dolphin HD has been rebuilt from scratch to take advantage of the speed and API enhancements of Android 2.0+.
