Palm Finally Kicks Ad Agency Modernista to The Curb
Apr 7th
Among all of Palm’s shortcomings in their struggle to build momentum with WebOS, their ads have received some of the most heat and their advertiser Modernista, is to blame. We all know about their first ads with “the creepy girl” (Tamara Hope) playing with her Pre whimsically and the terrible reception that they received. There’s good reason for the bad wrap surrounding these advertisements, because they do a very poor job explaining what makes the WebOS appealing and why people should be interested in buying Palm phones. In fact user-submitted ads have been vastly more appealing than the ones Modernista has pumped out.
Luckily yesterday Palm announced that they have ended their advertising contract with Modernista and that they are officially in the market for a new advertising partner. Whoever Palm selects as their new partner is going to have quite a bit of work to do in order to save a company that has lost a lot of momentum lately. We also know that Palm has a lot of phones sitting in warehouses waiting to be sold so it’s going to require a really solid ad campaign to get all of these devices out to consumers.

WebOS 1.4.1 hits Bell in Canada
Apr 2nd
Wednesday we reported that WebOS 1.4.1 hit Sprint and many international carriers. Left out however were the Canadians on Bell’s network. Luckily, yesterday WebOS 1.4.1 dropped for Bell users bringing with it the paid App Catalog and all the applications that Canadians had been deprived of for so long. If you’re a Pre user on Bell, now is your chance to get at all the bounties that the paid App Catalog has to offer, so fire up the update app and get to downloading.
Let us know what apps you’re going to purchase, too, since, honestly, there aren’t that many to choose from.
Homebrew hit DrPodder, hits the App Catalog
Mar 10th
DrPodder has been one of the most well-known and feature-rich podcatchers in the webOS homebrew scene. After much feedback and subsequent updates of the application, PreCentral reports that DrPodder has been released into the App Catalog for the modest price of $0.99. The application does everything you would expect from streaming podcasts over the air and allowing you to download them and listen to them later.
If you have been too timid to join the homebrew community and are in the market for a great podcast app definitely check out DrPodder, and even if you already have the homebrew version, throw down a buck to support the awesome work that’s been done to create it.
Do we have any DrPodder users out there? Have a different podcatching application? Let us know in the comments.
