BlackBerry Pearl 9100 and Acer Liquid E Available From Rogers
Jun 2nd
When it rains it pours SureType from the skies! Bell just released the phone officially, and now Rogers is following suit. The Pearl 9100 is available today, along with the Acer Liquid E, on Rogers’ 3G network.
The Pearl comes with a 624MHZ processor, 256MB RAM, a 3.2MP camera with flash and autofocus, a trackpad and BlackBerry OS5, along with the well-known SureType keyboard.
Check out our review of the Rogers Pearl 9100 and check it out at Rogers on contract for $49.99 with a $45/month voice and data package.

The Acer Liquid E is a milestone for Rogers. It marks the first Android 2.1 device release for the carrier, and furthers their commitment to Android phones, though their lineup still lacks a truly high-end phone. Actually, all Canadian carriers lack a phone like the HTC Incredible or EVO 4G. Hmm…
Anyway, the Liquid E is a pretty nicely-equipped phone, and is available on a 3-year contract for $49.99. For more information, check out the writeup we did on the device. Get more information at Rogers, too.
Bell Finally Sets A Release Date For The Pearl 3G?
Jun 2nd
After inventory undisclosed delays (it was originally scheduled to be released May 13th) and watching Telus and Rogers both release their versions in various colors, Bell has finally set a release date for the sure-hit Pearl 9100. An internal document sent to Mobile Syrup states a June 4th release with a $29.95 termed price tag or $329.95 outright. And although not confirmed, expect Bell’s discount affiliate Virgin Mobile to release it at the same time and price point as well.

We can’t say enough good things about this device. I love it, thecellularguru loves it; everyone will love it! It’s just that good. It feels nice in your hand, it’s got a heft to it that leaves you with the impression you’re using a well-built device. The screen is crisp and text is clear. The keyboard has been redesigned with touch-typers in mind: they are raised significantly and allow for a more intuitive typing experience.
Because of the fast processor, this thing flies. It uses the same processor as the BlackBerry Bold 9700, and it shows. Basically it is the same hardware, just in a smaller form factor.
Enjoy!
PS. Sorry for the side profile video again, we will figure out how to use these phone cameras eventually!
Rogers Blackberry Pearl 9100 Unboxed and Reviewed
May 19th
Look what elusive little device showed up at the TheCellularGuru.com offices today, fresh for an unboxing and review.
Between rumors around when it will be launched, speculation of which carrier will actually launch it (and when for that matter), and what it will cost, most info has been shrouded in speculation.
Mainly, the only chatter about the BlackBerry 9100 has been its sporadic OS leaks (for the yet un-released device).
Currently, no official Rogers pricing or release date have been confirmed. However, we can do a little unboxing to show you what you will be receiving if you choose to take the plunge.
Hit the break to read on.

Both share a snappy 624MHZ processor and 256MB of RAM. Packing all this into such a small package gives quick response and hardly any lag. I will admit, it has been inconvenient switching back to a SureType keyboard after the spacious elegance of a QWERTY device, but the keyboard is very responsive and intuitive, so once trained it will learn new words as I type.
Something that surprised me about the device is the firmware it comes pre-installed with.Rogers has become notorious for releasing devices with ancient OS versions, so to release the 9100 running a build over 6xx (.629 to be exact, with .676 being the latest leaked build online) is a definite step in the right direction.
There is no better way to describe the screen resolution than “hot.” It is a 320x400px screen and shows everything with crystal clarity. Though the total number of pixels is less than the 9700 (480×360), the screen is arguably sharper, as the smaller screen width packs those pixels more tightly together, producing a wonderfully vivid set of colors.
Another key feature to point out is the new battery packed into the device. If you look back at previous 4.6+ devices, the Storm/Curve series received similar batteries, as did both the Bold 9700/9000 respectively. Looking at the comparison between the recently leaked 9670 CDMA Clamshell and the Pearl 9100, both are using the new purple colored “F-M1″ series battery. Though the 9800 Slider battery has yet to come to light, since it’s part of the Bold family I’d expect it to follow suit with the “M-S1″ series.
Overall
I give the Pearl 9100 a solid 8/10. The wait was long and well worth it for the 8100 upgrade. I am positive that those who are anxiously awaiting this release will be happy with what they get. It’s sleek, stylish, comfortable in the hand, almost vanishes in the pocket and runs 3G. What more could you ask for?
Stay tuned for a hands-on video review in the next few days.

May 11th
Today, Our friends over at Engadget spotted the Pearl 9100 and 9105 in the FCC database. Both devices have been approved. The 9100 comes with the standard Pearl Suretype 20-key keyboard, while the 9105 comes with your ‘old school’ 14-key keyboard. No US carriers have made any announcement yet, but being that both devices are sporting WCDMA Bands II & V, AT&T should be saying something soon.
It will be interesting to see where the 9105 lands. Keep in mind, Telus, Bell and Rogers announced they will be carrying the 9100. No word on the 9105 as of yet. Will some carriers be releasing both models?

Rogers and Telus Both Officially Announce The Blackberry Pearl 9100
Apr 26th
With WES 2010 well under way we all know it’s going to be a busy week on the blog front. It’s only Monday morning and RIM has wasted no time officially announcing both the Bold 9650 and the Pearl 9100 respectively. With this being said two of the Canadian carriers have followed suit officially announcing their plans to indeed carry the Pearl 9100. Rogers official press release that they will be carrying the device went out this morning, with Telus’ being posted on their website not to long after.
Interestingly enough Telus has also announced that they will exclusively be selling the Pink version, with a possible Cancer Awareness marketing campaign. The device was originally speculated (with an inventory screen shot) at $79.99 on a 3 year term, Telus has officially announced a $29.99 price point, and I expect Rogers to follow suit on this one, though no formal pricing from Rogers has been announced.
I personally love this device, it’s slim and snappy and I think will be a sure fire hit, what do you think?
Hit the jump for official details on the exciting new device!

Blackberry Pearl 9100 Pricing Revealed?
Apr 23rd
It’s funny how things happen with unreleased Blackberry devices.
They go from being shrouded in mystery to being fully exposed, priced and dated often within a week. It happens with almost every device, so what makes the Pearl 9100 any different?
What started a few months ago with pictures/video of its existence, numerous OS leaks, even getting as far as off-contract pricing being uncovered just days ago, has now (after numerous guesses at $49.99) been priced at $79.99 on a 3 year term.
The release is rumored to be on or around May 6th for Telus, with Rogers/Fido and Bell probably following suit around the same time (as dummy units have already started shipping).
So to all my once loyal 8100/SureType fans, are you ready to ditch your now comfortable QWERTY device? Or has the ship sailed?

Follow me on twitterPearl 9100 Off-Contract Pricing Revealed
Apr 21st
Not too long ago we reported pictures of the still-unreleased second-generation Pearl 9100 (or its code name Stratus) being tested on Telus’s HSPA+ network. Other than that and the occasional OS leak there hasn’t been much to go on in for pricing or public availability. Well, low and behold, what do we have here? An inventory screenshot of the off-contract price for the Pearl 9100 from Rogers, Fido, and Bell? You bet!
Three year term pricing and availability is still unknown. I’d expect it to be released as a lower end device for $49.99 on a three year term. As for availability, considering WES (Blackberry’s yearly conference) is right around the corner, I’m sure we will hear something soon.
