iOS Multitasking Works Exactly How It’s Supposed To
Jun 21st
File this under: duh. Pandora updated their famous radio streaming app and has added multitasking capabilities. I checked it out, flawless. The iPod button in the control section of the multitask bar (are there names for these things?) turns into a Pandora one…, neat right? Naturally, music continues to play. Subtle touches like that make Apple’s implementation of multitasking an interesting one for sure. Of course, some other smartphone owners see this as nothing new, but this is a big deal for Apple people (like a Pandora controlling widget on the homescreen make’s the Pandora button seem trite). As more apps become available, believe that I’ll have a few more things to say, including a full “review” of sorts.

iPhone OS 4.0, Beta 3 Adds Some New Unannounced Features
May 5th
Looks like Apple is rolling along with the 4.0 betas, much like they did back in the 3.0 days. As a developer, I cannot disclose details but I can report on what others have. Engadget noticed that the application switcher tray thing has a software orientation lock and iPod controls. Gizmodo furthermore added that canceling applications can be done much quicker. The action used to be: tap and hold, wait for jiggle, tap the minus sign, repeat for every app. Now, there is only one tap and hold action, which speeds things up immensely. Orientation locks will help those that read in bed.
It’s really refreshing for Apple to be adding unannounced features. Maybe we iPhone users can get the notification problem solved or even get widgets and glanceable data on the lock screen. One can dream, right? Unfortunately, Apple has pulled the update for unknown reasons. If it was these features being released to the public, that damage has been done.

Update: Looks like the beta went completely official just now. Developers should have gotten emails about it. I wonder if these features have been removed, or if anything has been added.
