Now Live! Twitter for iPhone, Sprint Hero Gets 2.1

What a night! First, Twitter for iPhone is released (well, it’s kind of released) and Sprint Hero customers finally get theirs!

According to various sites, T4i is being propagated through various App Stores around the world, and has yet to reach these shores. What we do know is that there are tons of new features and UI improvements, but is essentially a rebranded Tweetie 2. UPDATE: Get the app now from the app store!

In other news, Sprint has gone official with its 2.1 update for the HTC Hero. Again, nothing OTA, but you can download it from their support website.

HTC Legend Coming With US/Canada 3G Bands?

Does this mean Telus will get another go at a beautiful mid-range HTC Android device?

The HTC Legend was released earlier this year to much fanfare, mostly because it was an upgraded version of the extremely successful HTC Hero.

Telus got the HTC Hero in its unaltered form in late 2009, and has been advertising it quite diligently, along with the Motorola Milestone. Personally, I prefer the Hero, but I like Sense UI.

Now, the HTC Legend has passed the FCC with 850/1900MHZ 3G bands, meaning it will be compatible with AT&T, Rogers, Telus, and Bell. I find it unlikely that Telus will let the phone out of its reach when it does eventually come to Canada.

Android Froyo On Its Way Next Month, 3.1 Next Up?

Apparently Android 2.2 will be rolled out next month, May 19 to be exact, at the beginning of Google IO, the Google-centric conference kicking off in San Fransisco on the same day. There are already test builds going around, and rumoured features include access to more internal RAM, FM Radio support and OpenGL 2.0 features. The Nexus One will likely get the OS first, but it should be rolled out to more phones as the OS gets more mature.

On the other front, there is a rumour going around that the Sprint HTC EVO 4G will ship with Android 3.1 (see picture), though I think that’s a photoshop and ain’t gonna happen. Take a look at the date: January 25th, on T-Mobile? Why would they be testing 3.1 on a T-Mobile device if it was supposed to go to Sprint, a CDMA carrier? But we’ll have to wait till June to hear about it.

And, while we’re on the subject, the HTC Hero update to 2.1 has been delayed again, this time till an early June timeframe. At this point I think it’s safe to say HTC hasn’t released the update to the wildly popular device as a strategic method to entice HTC fans to update to the Legend, which was released at the beginning of April in the UK and parts of Western Europe.

Telus Milestone and Hero Updates Coming in May/June

Last night, at the Motorola MotoBlur party (coverage to follow) I had an interesting conversation with someone who works within Telus’ ranks. He said, unofficially, that the updates Android 2.1 for the Telus Milestone and Hero will be coming in early May for the Milestone and early June for the Hero.

The Milestone update is currently being tested in-house and is going along nicely, and likely has the same includes as the European Milestone updates.

As for the Hero, he was less conclusive, saying that the update will come, though it is unknown if it will arrive in late May/early June, or be pushed back till a later date. Considering no Hero versions have yet to be updated to 2.1 (though Sprint’s is supposed to be released today) it is not a huge surprise.

This jibes with our previous suggestion that someone dropped the ball with the Hero update, citing “lack of effort” within the company itself. Seems nobody at Telus is in a hurry to train and support new versions of their phones. Sounds like you’re becoming the new Rogers, Telus. Well done. Or not.
