Follow me on twitterAngry Birds Coming To Android!
Jul 1st
If you’ve ever owned an iPhone or have friends that have one, then you may have heard of a game called Angry Birds. The good news is, it is coming to Android devices this summer. Bad new is, it’s highly addictive and will suck away your life for possibly hours at a time if you get too involved with it. The creators of Angry Birds have posted the above preview of the game running for us all to enjoy and lust after. Rovia has stated the game will be in the Android market for summer and will sell for only $.99 cents. Not bad at all. I guess the Android market was just to big now for Rovia to pass over.
Details spilled on Android 3.0 “Gingerbread”
Jun 30th
In a recent Russian Podcast, Eldar Murtazin let a few details slip out about Gingerbread, Android’s upcoming 3.0 OS. Gingerbread is said to sport a revamped UI similar to that of the 3D Gallery app, which was introduced with Eclair. With the new OS, a custom interface (ie: HTC’s Sense or Motorola’s Motoblur) may not be possible, though nothing is confirmed at the moment.
Custom interfaces have been embraced with many users, but it seems at though some have affected the performance of certain devices, which is out of Google’s hands. Google is revamping the UI in an attempt to appease users, while maintaining more control over the OS (a la Apple). Hopefully, Gingerbread will liven up the user experience so that custom interfaces will no longer be desired.
Gingerbread will only be available for devices sporting a 1GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, and a 3.5″ display or larger. There are a decent amount current devices that will make the cut, but some will be forced to stick with 2.1 or 2.2. There will also be a 1280 x 760 resolution available for devices with screens that are 4″ or larger. Right now it looks like we’ll see some new devices released with Gingerbread in mid-October, along with the upgrade to current devices.

Boys love their Toys..the stats don’t lie!
Mar 2nd
It’s a well known fact that us guys love our gadgets and love to have the latest and greatest. Yes, they tend to cost a fortune and normally will land us in hot water with our other half for not discussing the purchase, but we can’t help it, its like second nature for most of us, we like shiny and new. This led me to wonder…are there any actual stats on who uses which device more? Everyday we hear of new blackberry leak this, new Android ROM update that, but, who is using them? Do men prefer iPhone’s OS over it’s Android rival? Women liking the iTouch over WebOS?
Well, the team over at Android Guys decided to pull some info from AdMob and the stats are pretty clear:
- 73% of Android users are male
- 24% of Android users are under age 25
- Android users spend about 80 minutes a day using apps
- Only 6% of Android users plan to pick up an iPad (Duh)
- 84% of Android users would recommend their device to others
- Android users download roughly 9 apps every month, nearly identical to iPhone users
- Only 21% of Android users purchase at least 1 paid app per month
Up until now, there haven’t been any female oriented Android devices released, so it doesn’t surprise me that nearly 3 out of 4 users are males. The 84% satisfaction and recommendation rate should grow over time as users have more options to choose from when buying handsets.
Do the stats surprise you? Do you think the numbers are accurate? Let us know in the comments!
