Review: Dictionary.com application for iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry
Mar 8th
The times that I have found myself needing a dictionary to check the spelling or meaning of a word are countless. I don’t carry a dictionary on my person (I imagine few people do) and end up having to find a workaround to using a dictionary. That is until the Dictionary.com app came out for the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry. I can’t tell you how many times these applications have come in handy.
The great thing about the applications is that they aren’t just limited to dictionary functionality. There is a full thesaurus feature integrated into the applications which use Thesaurus.com’s database to find synonyms and antonyms. The applications also have an English and Spanish word of the day section which is great for extending your vocabulary. All dictionary entries include phonetic and audio pronunciations but the audio pronunciations require an internet connection.
For whatever reason the iPhone application has many more definitions and synonyms available compared to the BlackBerry and Android versions of the application, but I haven’t run into any words that I couldn’t find. The iPhone version stores all of the definitions and synonyms in the application making them available for offline use, however the audio pronunciations and word of the day features do require internet access. The Android and BlackBerry applications require an internet connection for all application functions.
Dictionary.com’s applications are a great way to have a dictionary in your pocket and you can’t beat the free price. Check out the applications for yourself at Dictionary.com and let us know what you think about the apps.

Dec 30th
Since it’s first English version dating back to the 1600’s the dictionary has been a staple of writers and knowledge seekers alike, it come in so many different flavors and sizes from the Pocket edition eye straining size to the 2 ton book of knowledge editions you see from time to time in great Libraries and Universities alike.
The one thing that always made the dictionary a hard thing to use was carrying it around with you, to school, home from school at work etc etc.
Just the last month I remember rummaging through the entire house to find one for my son…we never did find one either, but know thanks to my blackberry Smartphone we will never be without a dictionary again.
Introducing Dictionary and Thesaurus - By Dictionary.com, and this is not a dictionary it is a truly useful tool, with fast response times, a great layout and several different options you can chose, like the ability to email or text a definition, the ability to see your word in English or Spanish, there is the built in Thesaurus, you have the ability to go back to recently viewed words. When you go between the tabs of the Dictionary and the Thesaurus it automatically takes your current word with you so there is not need to retype and search again.
Some of its Features
* Dictionary and Thesaurus
* Word of the Day English and Spanish
* More than 325,000 words and definitions
* More than 275,000 synonyms
* Phonetic and audio pronunciations
* Spelling suggestions
* Recent history
* Social networking functions
* Email integration
The look of the application is great no wasted space and the menus are easy to get to and operational is very simple and straight forward and its actually fun to use, in fact I use it all the time now just for learning words I hear in passing or come across while reading, this application is indispensable. One of the best features is the Word of the day feature which allows you to also hear the word spoken through your BlackBerry as well as it gives you the word in a sentence which is always a bonus when researching words.
But by far the Best thing about this app is that it is truly integrated with your BlackBerry, whether you are writing an email or reading a document all you need to do is highlight a word and hit the menu and it will give you options to define that word or get Synonyms for that word as well, once clicked it opens that word in the dictionary application….very very cool. So if you are looking for an APP that you just can’t do with out, check out the Dictionary app. Find it here at appworld
