BlackBerry Bold 9700 sequel coming!?
Jul 23rd
A UAProf doc has been spotted showing a BlackBerry 9780. If anyone had to make an educated guess, the 9780 will be the Onyx 2. Any 97xx will be the same form factor as the 9700 that we all know and love. We spoke about a UAProf doc showing a 9700a in the past, but that type of model # didn’t make much sense. Since we’ve seen the Tour replaced with the Bold 9650 and there are currently some rumors floating around about a refresh of the Storm 2, it would be the right time for RIM to be working on a newer Onyx device. It seems RIM is going to push all flagship devices out with 512MB Ram, possibly to ready them for BlackBerry 6. The last we heard, the 9700 will be getting BlackBerry 6 but it is possible that things have changed. Stay tuned for more details as time unfolds.

inPulse Blackberry Watch Launching Soon?
Jul 23rd
There is so much secrecy around this watch, I want it just to say I have it. What was once a rumor has turned into a reality: a watch that connects and functions with your beloved Blackberry device. And for all those who opted into the pre-order a few months ago, that time could be just around the corner.
inPulse posted a teaser on their blog, showing the first round of watches being received for final assembly and testing. Still no exact launch date is given, but based on this post it could be hopefully by the end of the summer! More details to follow.

Verizon’s BlackBerry Storm 2 won’t see BlackBerry 6?
Jul 21st
Gizmofusion got word today from one of their informants that Verizon stopped testing BlackBerry 6 on the Storm 2. If this information is true, likely reasons are the Storm 2′s 256MB of RAM and or the Storm 3 possibly coming this year, which we’ve been hearing rumors about. There’s no word yet if other Storm 2 carriers have stopped testing BlackBerry 6, so we’ll have to sit tight and see what happens.

BlackBerry 9800 Hitting AT&T on the 15th of August?
Jul 21st
It’s no secret that the BlackBerry 9800 slider is coming fast for an official launch on AT&T, but VentureBeat has come up with a date to set your sights on. That date is August 15th, and it comes from John Albright of the BlackBerry Partners Fund who mentioned the date of a new BlackBerry’s release. Later he confirmed our suspicions of the device being the 9800 by naming off features such as a touchscreen with slide-out keyboard.
The biggest news that Albright revealed is that the 9800 has already been distributed to developers, hopefully giving them the tools they need to have their apps ready for the official launch of BlackBerry 6. RIM hasn’t been very good at getting devices out to developers in the past, but if this is true it looks like things are changing on that front.

Inside BlackBerry Teases Us With BlackBerry 6 Multimedia Screenshots!
Jul 20th
The Official BlackBerry Blog has posted up some screenshots of BlackBerry 6′s media center showing some great new features and add-ons. For one thing, BlackBerry 6 will come with a YouTube app which I know we’ve all been waiting for. There is also the addition of a podcast app which is nice, but I’m still thinking about the YouTube app, as there are already decent podcast apps out for BlackBerry. The camera also has some new controls, and photo organization & sharing has been made much easier. Inside BlackBerry says, “BlackBerry 6 will also allow you to select groups of pictures to share, copy, paste or delete.” I sure hope you can select groups of pictures and move them into a selected folder as well.
RIM has now gone more in-depth with features of BlackBerry 6 than recent leaks have. Seems to me like RIM is trying to hold onto their customer base, especially with the recent release of the iPhone 4. Ok RIM, we know #BB6iscoming, but when?

Foursquare for Blackberry V1.9 Now Available
Jul 20th
Everyone’s favorite friend tracking app has been updated to V1.9 and is loaded with plenty of new features to keep you busy “checkin”ing to venues. One of the notable new features added to this new version (other than increased battery life), is the ability to upload photos from your check-in. This enables users and their friends to upload different photos from the same venue allowing followers to see a photo stream from different aspects of the event.
Other features added include:
- Sort Check-ins – Quickly sort your nearby check-ins by time (most recent check-in) or by distance (closest check-in).
- See Specials Nearby – Now you can see what venues feature specials when searching for what’s nearby.
- BlackBerry Maps Integration – From a venue details page, click on the Google map tile and automatically get launched into BlackBerry maps.
- Improved Battery Life – foursquare is always focused on battery performance and has made a few improvement. Expect even more improvements in the future.
- Improved Location Support – Additional improvements have been made to location, allowing for better location support when checking in.
- Small Tweaks & Fixes – foursquare is always listening to user feedback and making small fixes & tweaks along the way.

Follow me on twitterBlackBerry Storm 3 to be released this year?
Jul 19th
Today Engadget posted up a pic of what seems to be a confidential slide of some early information on RIM’s next Storm device. The slide is titled ‘Odin Refresh’ which suggests a minor update to the Storm 2 (Codename: Odin). The snapshot is very blurry, but from what I can see, the device looks cosmetically identical to the Storm 2.
Details include:
BlackBerry 6
WebKit Browser
512MB of RAM & up to 32GB SD card
5MP Camera with new UI
World Edition
802.11n WiFi
3G Mobile Hotspot (Coming Soon)
Hit the jump for more details>>
Something is blocking the bottom of the slide where it’s believed to be showing a release in a month ending in ‘mber’. A November/December release would definitely make sense considering RIM released the first two Storm devices around that time last year and the year before. With no sign of a live CDMA 9800 as of yet, it looks like this will be the CDMA touchscreen device RIM will be pushing for the next holiday season.
Now in the upper right hand corner of the snapshot, just under ‘STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL’, it says ‘Specifications Subject To Change’. There’s still 4 or 5 months before the projected release so it would not be surprising to see several changes before the official announcement. It’ll be interesting to see if RIM holds onto the SurePress screen amongst other things. Do you think there will be any changes? What would you like to see?

Mobile Lifestyle: How to lose a guy in 10 BBMs
Jul 18th
A boy must have invented the “delivered” versus “received” system on BBM because he certainly did not take into account the potential torture and agony that would ensue. Don’t get me wrong, I love BBM, yet where do you draw the line on who to add and when it is appropriate to add them? To avoid emotional turmoil, and embarrassing conversations like the one below, I have developed some simple rules.
BBM Conversation | Translation |
1:54 am R u still up? | Drunk text to new guy |
1:54 am thx baby – had a great time too J | Misdirected message intended to be sent to old guy |
2:18am oh! Sorry, wrong person…..lol! eek.. | Back peddling! |
(messages all received) | The glaring “R” shows up on all messages to new guy |
2:19am hello??? | More Back peddling and slight anger at his non-responsiveness |
2:21am k listen, don’t worry about that message – its nothing. | …. |
2:22am am I | …. |
2:22am right? | …. |
2:23am k, well ur prolly sleeping | Resignation and acceptance |
2:23am are you?? | Disbelief |
2:24am I am sorry for waking u up… | Apologetic |
(all messages received) | Anger and Rage |
12:34pm Yah I was. I was fast asleep and I heard my phone beep 10 times. | Good riddance – didn’t like him anyways |
- Do not engage in drunk-texting, sexting or any type of mobile communication after 1:51am. This will ultimately lead to messages sent to the wrong recipients. #fail
- Do not date those that choose to leave your message as “received” with no answer. These individuals are clearly not eager to read your message – how dare they.
- There is also a smaller group who choose to leave the messages “delivered” for up to 3 or more hours that could be on the non-date list as well. These individuals are either a) playing games b) industrial strength phone answering control. In either case, you are a phone junkie and need to know things right away and have no patience for either.
- If you do choose to place your new “special someone” on your instant message list – first think about the implications: 1. You can be reached 24/7 – do you want to be that available? 2. Unfortunately, deleting will be noticed.
- My number one rule going forward with BBM is to just keep it to close friends and family where no miscommunication can occur. If it does, than a simple phone call can alleviate such matters.
Email is sooo 2009, BBM is the new hotness, and in any case it’s more personal than email.
When you add a new contact it’s an open invitation to conversation 24/7. So be mindful and weary as to who you draw into your inner personal mobile space – it can get crowded.

This Week In BlackBerry 4/11-4/17
Jul 18th
BlackBerry leaks have been very light this week, but RIM has really picked up the slack with their official presence. The new BlackBerry 6 teaser video, BBM commercials and RIM’s Annual General Meeting definitely kept us entertained throughout the week.
Just when everything was calm again, Steve Jobs brought BlackBerry news back to life by attempting to pull RIM into Apple’s faulty antenna situation. Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie usually aren’t the type to respond to other Smartphone companies, but in this case, they felt it was necessary to put Steve Jobs in his place. Antennagate is so newsworthy, even people who normally don’t follow Smartphone news were talking about it and passing phones around, attempting to ‘death grip’. Hit the jump to see what you may have missed this week in BlackBerry.
