Good Video Browser for BlackBerry
Aug 16th
If you’re the type of person who likes to record videos on your BlackBerry, you’re probably annoyed that the native video browser does not support thumbnail view. This has been fixed on the BlackBerry 6 OS, but most current BlackBerry devices will not be getting BlackBerry 6. It’s very annoying to have to open and view each video in order to find out what it is, unless you name each video as you record it but who actually does that? I was really turned off to the whole video thing on my BlackBerry until I came across ‘Good Video Browser’ by Almoko…
Good Video Browser for BlackBerry is exactly what it says it is. The app will retrieve your videos from your video folder, and also gives you the option to scan all folders for other videos that may be on your device. You can view thumbnails in a grid or list view with additional details. You also have the option to rename, delete, record and send videos directly from the app. Good Video Browser is what the native BlackBerry videos browser should have been.
Good Video Browser is available for the following devices:
8900 (Curve), 8910 (Curve), 8930 (Curve), 9000 (Bold), 9500 (Storm), 9530/9530T (Storm), 9550/9520 (Storm2), 9630 (Tour), 9650 (Bold), 9700 (Bold), 9800 (Torch)
Good Video Browser is currently on sale at Mobihand for $2.99, but I’m not sure how long that will last!
You can also pick it up here in App World but it’s listed at the regular price of $4.99.

Flash 10.1 Final Hits Nexus One, Coming Soon for Droid
Aug 16th
The Nexus One received an updated version of Adobe’s Flash 10.1 plugin this afternoon, cementing and making official the biggest advantage Google and its Android platform has over the iOS ecosystem. While most of the features were already in place, the final version improves the quality and reliability of video streams and games.
This momentous occasion also falls at the same time as Froyo is being distributed amongst most high-end Android smartphones, such as the Motorola Droid, Droid X, EVO 4G, and soon, the Galaxy S variants, though that won’t happen ’till September.
It’s good that Adobe had a good test subject in the Nexus One: the distribution group was small enough that they could catch any bugs before releasing the major upgrade, and the Nexus One is considered a developers’ or enthusiasts’ phone, so generally those owners were people who wanted to try the latest and greatest beta software.
Congratulations, Adobe and Google! Check out the build in the Android Marketplace.
PS. The Droid version should be available soon, according to Adobe CEO, Shantanu Narayen. It will distributed as a second update to the version of Froyo being released now, in the coming weeks.

Palm Pre Plus Sold Out on Verizon and AT&T’s websites
Aug 16th
We don’t want to get our hopes too high with this one, but it’s certainly worth noting that the Palm Pre Plus is currently sold out on both AT&T’s and Verizon’s websites. While we absolutely want this to be an indicator that new webOS-toting hardware is ready to roll in for these two carriers, we can’t leave out the possibility that both carriers happened to run out of stock at the same time. Plus, while the phone may be sold out online, as far as we know stores are still selling Pres as usual. For now feel free to speculate, but for me, until Sprint follows suit with the older original Palm Pre I’m not convinced.

Sony PSP Ad Kicks Apple In the Bumper
Aug 16th
Lately, Apple has been the topic of most phone-related jokes for its reception-plagued device, and for good reason. But now, Sony is joining in on the fun, this time from a different angle; gaming. And the ad couldn’t be funnier.
[Click here for mobile friendly viewing]
Notice how Sony calls the iPhone “A phone built for texting your grandma”, not gaming.
We all know the iPhone has some pretty stellar graphics for gaming, but nothing really compares to the PSP when it comes to playing on the go. I wonder how, or if, Apple will respond to this latest competitive chirp.

It took only 4 days!!
Amazon, the leaders in online retail under-cutting, have dropped the 2 year price of the recently launched Torch to just $99.99.
Could it be the less than stellar sales that were reported this past launch weekend? Or that Amazon simply likes to under-cut AT&T? However you spin it, it’s a good deal for this hot new device.
I have been using it since it was launched and love every minute with it, so don’t miss out on this great deal!

Aug 16th
This could be the only BlackBerry twitter app to really compete with the official Twitter for BlackBerry client.
Since its launch about a year ago, the updates have been consistent and noticeable. Frankly, If I wasn’t using Tweetissimo (the push twitter app) I would be using UberTwitter for every day use.

- New User Interface - We’ve taken the BlackBerry platform to another level with our intuitive interface.

- ÜberChannels provides real-time “Channels” - live streams of relevant messages from respected sources on a particular topic. These topics include cities and countries, sports, entertainment, health, business and political issues, hobbies, pastimes and passions. ÜberChannels crawls more than half a million Twitter lists to identify the most respected sources on Twitter. We will be upgrading this in the near future to include filtered channels in order to provide you with the best real-time content.
- List Search - Twitter lists are great, but how do you find lists about a particular topic? We’ve solved that problem by providing you the ability to search and find lists that interest you.
- Über Bar - No you can’t order a drink there, but you can ‘dock’ your favorite ÜberTwitter functionality to it! Add your favorite user timelines (and we’ll include their picture too!), lists, saved searches, favorites, everyone near you, and more!

- Following and Blocking Status - Open a users profile and at the bottom you can see if they are following you and whether you are blocking them.
- unblocking - You can now unblock users.

- Conversations - It was nice to be able to click the ‘in reply to’ button to see what tweet a person was replying to, but now, click the ‘Talk Bubble’ icon, select ‘view conversation’ from the menu, or use the short-cut key ‘c’ and we’ll do the heavy lifting and retrieve the entire converstation for you!

Aug 16th
GLENTEL, a leading provider in telecommunications services and solutions based out of Burnaby BC, has agreed to acquire 81.5% of Diamond Wireless LLC, from Salt Lake City Utah.
GLENTEL currently operates more than 280 locations across Canada located in retail malls and some store front locations. As the largest multi-carrier mobile phone retailer in Canada, GLENTEL offers a choice of network carrier and wireless device or phone. Perhaps more familiar to customers are their trading names GLENTEL Wireless, WirelessWave, The Telephone Booth and WIRELESS Etc.
The purchase of Diamond Wireless helps to further establish GLENTEL’s expansion in to the United States according to President and CEO Thomas Skidmore. “We endorse Diamond’s business plan to grow with profitability representing Verizon Wireless, under the continued leadership and commitment of Diamond’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Troy Crosland, and his existing management team.”
With 128 currently operating stores throughout the United States and as a “premium retailer” of Verizon Wireless products, it’s is easy to see why Diamond Wireless was such an attractive purchase.
The transaction is expected to close on October 1, 2010, and is obviously subject to many terms and conditions. The total purchase price is USD $50,450,000.

PayPal and Android: Was it bound to happen?
Aug 16th
To date the only way to buy an app in the Android market place was through Google Checkout.
The average reader may be saying, “So what’s the big deal? Doesn’t Google run everything online!?” The answer is no. Most people don’t have a Google Checkout account, opting to use the far more popular PayPal, and as a direct result avoid purchasing certain apps.
A few days ago, Bloomberg reported that Android market might be changing their payment methods, which will hopefully open up the market to purchasers who refuse to use their credit cards online.
In my opinion this should have happened from day one. With the amount of online fraud, many are hesitant to put their personal information on the Internet, even if it is in the hands of the Google juggernaut. By enabling PayPal, customers can deposit money into their account and make purchases confidently and securely.
Do you agree with this change? Let me know in the comments!
