Tether turns 1 and celebrates with a contest
Mar 9th
Tether, the popular software for sharing your phone’s data connections with your laptop, is celebrating their first year in business, and what a year it’s been. From not existing to being used by over 110,000 BlackBerrys, the launch of Mac and Bluetooth versions, the Android Beta software winning the Innovacorp I3 contest!
So what’s Tether doing to celebrate? They’re doing what any good tech company does! They’re giving away six smartphones, 3 BlackBerry, 3 Android each with the Tether logo. What do you have to do to enter? Head on over to tether.com/contest and sign up.
They’re also hooking up various BlackBerry and Android blogs with copies of their software to give away (and hopefully to a certain charming guru blogger *cough-hint *cough-hint who uses both BlackBerry and Android).
And if that isn’t enough, until March 16, Tether is available for only $29.99!
Big news to follow up a big year from Tether.
Happy Birthday Guys, from all the Gurus!

Mar 9th
BlackBerry App World has been updated to 1.1.0.33. No change log as of yet so it’s anyone’s guess what was fixed – maybe it will quit deleting itself from people’s phones now.
Either way, it gives me the chance to download BB App World FROM BB App World! (sorry in advance if I tear a hole in the time-space continuum)
Thanks to CrackBerry for the heads up.

Mar 2nd
Although I fully understand its purpose and its usefulness, I have to chuckle at the concept of Tether. We’ve spent decades trying to make computers small enough to fit onto a piece of rice, without losing functionality, but we still return to the larger devices.
On that note, Tether has been updated to 1.1.0.2 bringing a faster UI and general bug fixes with it. I’ve never used Tether myself but I don’t travel all that much. If I did, though (and didn’t have my netbook), it sounds like a really great program.
So, any of you guys use it? How do you like it? Any problems?
For more info, check out their website.
Thanks to CrackBerry for the heads up.

Bell iPhone users rejoice! Bell Mobility has come to the table with an exclusive for you, but as you may have guessed it, it’ll cost ya.
Mobile Syrup is reporting starting today Bell is first carrier in the world to offer live TV access to the 2010 Winter games available on the Apple iPhone. Some of the other channels users will be able to access are live NHL, CBC/RBC, The Weather Network, Treehouse, MuchMusic, and YTV.
Good thing about this app is that its completely FREE and can only be used with OS 3.0 or later, Now for the downside, this app wont work over WIFI so you must use your existing data plan with this bad boy for it to work. (in addition to $8 monthly Mobile TV charges, Olympics is a $10 one-time fee).
Still want it? Click HERE
Non Bell customers feeling left out? Look on the bright side, you can still download the app at no charge and access the free preview category at will, but cannot subscribe to any content Bell has to offer, sorry it is what it is.
Did you download it and subscribe? Leave us a comment and let us know how you are liking mobile TV.

reMail acquired by Google…but why?
Feb 20th
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m REALLY looking forward to this war brewing between Google and Apple. I think it’s fair to say Android phones and the iPhone are primarily marketed more towards consumers than business users and, with that market constantly growing, these two tech giants aren’t going to be pulling any punches.
Want proof? (I mean other than the in-again, out-again of Google Voice in the Apple’s App Store)
On Thursday Google acquired reMail, an iPhone email client, and virtually IMMEDIATELY pulled it from the App Store. In fact, the reMail website already has tons of Google propaganda all over it.
According to the press release, reMail will continue to work on the iPhone support for the app will continue until the end of March.
As far as Google goes, the jury’s still out on what they plan on doing with their new acquisition, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the answer is “nothing”. I mean, with as much money as Google has, they can definitely afford to buy a company for the sole purpose of hurting a rival. It’s actually a pretty brilliant move on their part…and I think it’s hilarious.

Feb 18th
How many of you are as addicted to books as you are to your BB? Well I’ve got great news for you: BlackBerry now has a Kindle app! It’s a free download on the app, with books being the usual $9.99 (unless otherwise marked – thanks Apple for messing that up). Though new, the app has all the same functionality as a normal Kindle with over 400,000 books available and free book samples. Also, the books you purchase can be read on your BB, your Kindle, your computer or any other Kindle app. Probably the best feature is that it automatically syncs where you left off between the different apps, meaning no more lost bookmarks! The only downside is that the app is only available for US customers, though I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t change in the future.
To download, head to amazon.com/kindleBB from your phone’s browser or go to the link below to send the link to your phone via email.

Goodbye productivity at work, Hello Slingbox for iPhone!
Feb 16th
iPhone users guess what!! Your days of waiting to get home to watch TV are officially over, for a price of course.
Riding the success of the now famous Blackberry App, Slingbox for iPhone has arrived. If you are unfamiliar with Slingbox it brings the ability of connecting to your TV at home from anywhere in the world via your Wifi or 3G connection (would you really want to watch hockey over EDGE?) Till now this has been a “Blackberry Only” app and allowed for much bragging rights among blackberry afficianados alike. Well, as Mashable reported yesterday those times have now officially changed. The app is now live via the Appstore for a mere $29.99 (trusted you already have the Slingbox hardware attached to your TV already for the app to communicate with)
Being that I actively switch between both devices and as of now am a heavy Slingbox user on my Blackberry 9700, I’m overjoyed that I’m no longer limited to just using my Blackberry. I can now take advantage of the large iPhone screen making the dollar value insignificant to what I’m actually getting.
If you are reading this post on an iPhone you can pick up the app here
