Blackberry 9700 OS 5.0.0.743 Made Official by Rogers Wireless
Jun 17th
It has been a while since we posted on a Blackberry OS becoming official for ANY carrier let alone for our hometown hero Rogers, but it has been so long since an official update has been made that I felt that this one deserved some attention. I have been using .743 since it leaked just over a week ago and for the most part have been impressed with the stability and battery life compared to the past builds. With the device dropping today to just $99.99 on a 3 year and a fresh build to load up on it, there shouldn’t be much stopping you from Blackberry happiness. Load it up and let us know what you think in the comments.

Follow me on twitterLast Minute WWDC 2010 Rumor Roundup!
Jun 7th
Okay okay, I know that all of this will be invalidated in a matter of hours. Speculation, even at the last minute is still totally exciting though. Below are some possibilities along with a probability based on no scientific fact whatsoever…, purely my instinct.
A new iPhone released. 100%
The new iPhone has (at least) a higher resolution display, front facing camera, flash, and new design. 99%
New iPhone comes in Black or White. 99%
New iPhone comes in other colors. 1% (I think this was disproven yesterday)
Apple talks about new measures in data efficiency. 10% (A response to RIM/AT&T) Apple adds new iPhone carriers. 40% (I’m actually way more inclined to believe it this year…) Other, non-iPhone products are released. 100% (With all the rumors, one of them HAS to be right, right?) You’ll be able to download iPhone OS 4.0 right away. 75% … and iPod Touch users will have to pay. 100% … and finally, iPad owners will have to wait. 75% MobileMe goes free. 20% iTunes goes streaming cloud service thingy. 15% (I’d love a subscription based iTunes!) Keynote has more, really boring app demos by developers. 100% Steve Jobs says “we really think you’re gonna like this.” 100% Alright, that’s kinda all I could come up with at the moment. We’ll see how well I do in just a little bit. I’ll be reading the live blog on Engadget and maybe streaming TWiT live in the background. After the keynote is over, I’ll be back with a recap post. Stay tuned. Keynote times: 07:00AM : Hawaii Photos used under a Creative Commons “Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.0 Generic” license from adamjackson1984.

Android On The iPhone 3G … Already?
May 12th
Man, that was quick. I was just talking about how I wanted this on the 3G and 3GS. It was more of a gesture of support, with very little expectation. Maybe I should get even more hopeful. By what I can tell, this doesn’t seem to be the same person behind the iPhone 2G version who I believe goes by the pseudonym, “Superhero.” The 3G version was done by David Wang. Audio doesn’t work just yet, but it doesn’t necessarily matter as enterprising 3G owners can’t even attempted it until the binaries are released. I cannot believe how close I am to dual booting my iPhone and getting the best of all worlds.
Hands-On Video Of The BlackBerry 9670 Running BlackBerry 6
May 8th
YouTube link for Mobile viewing
We’ve got a nice little exclusive for you, today. A tipster has sent our way some juicy video showcasing the latest build of BlackBerry 6 running on the Bold 9670.
From the first leaked shot till now, the 9670 has increasingly become a point of contention amongst BlackBerry users: what is its purpose? What phone is it meant to replace? Why, oh why, did RIM choose this awkward form factor to further its gains into the mainstream smartphone market? Because, as you can see, the BlackBerry 9670 isn’t nearly as ugly as we once thought it to be. In fact, it seems kind of…cute.
But, more importantly, this is the first live look of BlackBerry 6 running on a non-touch device. While it looks incredibly polished, and, indeed, usable, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot differentiating itself from the latest OS5 builds. While that may change before release, the improvements seem largely aesthetic. It’s nice to see the home screen more customizable, and some graphics added to the Settings menu, but overall this is the BlackBerry OS we know and love. New users may find it more intuitive, but veterans will know exactly what to do.
What do you think? Is this the game changer RIM is hoping for? From the looks of it, probably not, but there is a lot more BlackBerry 6 to delve in to.
Enjoy.

May 6th
It may not be the mid-April date that Motorola had promised so long ago, but it’s better than nothing. According to Motorola’s Facebook page European Motorola Milestone users can now get their official 2.1 update bringing with it, the option to use as many as a whopping nine homescreens. Voice dialing over Bluetooth is also an added feature that the US Motorola Droid did not receive in it’s version of 2.1 that the Milestone will receive.
Users have been reporting however that they are having issues after the update with putting their devices in the multimedia dock. Motorola has offered some advice on how to fix the problem—simply clearing out the multimedia cache should resolve the issue.
In some cases problems with docking stations have been due to old cache, try this:
1.Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications
2.Press menu button
3.Filter -> All -> Multimedia station -> Clear data
The update is available from Motorola’s Milestone support page and is currently only available as a side-loaded update but we hear that an OTA version is in the works. A PDF is available here if you need more details before you bite the bullet.

iPhone OS 4.0, Beta 3 Adds Some New Unannounced Features
May 5th
Looks like Apple is rolling along with the 4.0 betas, much like they did back in the 3.0 days. As a developer, I cannot disclose details but I can report on what others have. Engadget noticed that the application switcher tray thing has a software orientation lock and iPod controls. Gizmodo furthermore added that canceling applications can be done much quicker. The action used to be: tap and hold, wait for jiggle, tap the minus sign, repeat for every app. Now, there is only one tap and hold action, which speeds things up immensely. Orientation locks will help those that read in bed.
It’s really refreshing for Apple to be adding unannounced features. Maybe we iPhone users can get the notification problem solved or even get widgets and glanceable data on the lock screen. One can dream, right? Unfortunately, Apple has pulled the update for unknown reasons. If it was these features being released to the public, that damage has been done.

Update: Looks like the beta went completely official just now. Developers should have gotten emails about it. I wonder if these features have been removed, or if anything has been added.
webOS 1.4.1.1 Hitting Verizon Today?
Apr 28th
Verizon has posted on their Pre Plus support site that webOS 1.4.1.1 will be dropping “soon.” PreCentral has received an anonymous tip that claims the update may be dropping April 28th, which just so happens to be today! This is good news for Verizon Pre Plus and Pixi Plus users as they have been left out of the 1.4.1 party so far. We know that Sprint and International carriers received the update at the end of March, bringing bug fixes and access to the App Catalog for International users. Verizon users will be seeing the full 1.4.1.1 update as opposed to just the 1.4.1 update (confusing right?). The main optimization in 1.4.1.1 is that it handles background processes better by terminating them in a larger timeframe than that in 1.4.1. Just trust us, it’s a good thing. The update should also bring relief to Verizon Pre Plus users who have been suffering from keyboard issues that cause frequent double letters or failure to register key presses at all. Hit the break for the full changelog, and keep your finger on the update button. Be sure to let us know in the comments if it drops for you.

BlackBerry OS Leak: 5.0.0.591 For Storm 9530
Apr 26th
Storm 9530 owners seem to be the runt of the litter these days: the device that so many have but no one wants. I am currently using a Storm2 9550, and it is far and away a more usable, attractive device.
It’s a good thing, however, that there is still OS development happening for the original storm. Almost up to the 600′s, this OS, I’m sure, merely brings more bug fixes, and more bugs in general, to the table. Download with caution.

Get Android On Your iPhone 2G Now!
Apr 26th
It was earlier announced that it was even possible. Wanna do it yourself?
Just follow these 68 simple steps. I’d be all over this if I didn’t upgrade to the 3GS ages ago. Let’s hope that promising geek can get it working on other iPhones. Unfortunately, without the hardware buttons, the Android on iPhone experience leaves much to be desired. It’d be stellar if Google invested in this a little bit. Regardless, it is a shining moment in open source software.

Telus Milestone 2.1 Update Available Now
Apr 21st
Telus Milestone users who have been waiting so patiently for their 2.1 update are in luck today. Telus and Motorola have pushed out the software update, though this won’t be coming in an OTA (over the air) fashion. Instead users can grab it through Motorola’s website at this link. Just select your carrier (Telus) and your device (Milestone) to download the update. Once downloaded, users will need to link up their Milestone via micro USB cable and then proceed with the update. Hit up the full changelog after the break, and if you are a Telus Milestone user and grab the update, make sure to drop a comment with your results.
