Windows Phone 7 Developer Tools Finalized on September 16th, App Submissions Begin in Early October

Just over six months after the introduction of Microsoft’s Window Phone 7 mobile phone operating system, the Windows Phone Developer Blog has announced that the gold release of the Windows Phone Developer Tools will be available on September 16th. Along with that news, we have also been informed that application submissions to the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace will begin sometime in early October. There still isn’t a set hardware launch date, at least nothing more than the “ready for the holidays” line that we have seen before, but with the Marketplace ramping up in early October we’re going to set our sights on a late October or November launch date.

T-Mobile Launches G2 Teaser Site, Set to be Carrier’s First HSPA+ Phone

T-Mobile just posted up the teaser site for their first HSPA+ phone, the G2. Previous leaks of T-Mobile’s roadmap lead us to think that it will be a HTC Android device launching sometime in September. While the people at Engaget seem to think the smokey silhouette above looks like the myTouch HD that has been leaked previously, I think it better resembles another leak, the HTC Blaze. Whatever it is, it’s coming soon and should bring a hot piece of hardware to T-Mobile. While you wait, check out the G2′s teaser site and feel free to sign up for updates if you’re into that sort of thing. Otherwise, we’ll keep you posted.
BlackBerry 9670 Clamshell Not Exclusive to Verizon, Headed to Sprint Soon?

Remember the BlackBerry 9670 Clamshell? You know the one that we showed off forever ago and also the one that just had its simulator leaked online. Knowing that, it’s pretty obvious that the device’s launch has to be coming up soon, and until now we thought the destined carrier would be Verizon. BGR just let the word out that the 9670 is actually headed to Sprint and is therefore not going to be available exclusively for Verizon subscribers. They also report that live, Sprint-branded units are already out in the wild for carrier testing. I don’t think most people are crazy about the form factor of the 9670 so this phone will need all the help it can get to sell well, and another carrier to call home is a step in the right direction. Still, I’ve got to wonder who is going to buy this over Sprint’s other offerings such as the HTC EVO 4G and the upcoming Epic 4G.

Palm Pre Plus Sold Out on Verizon and AT&T’s websites

We don’t want to get our hopes too high with this one, but it’s certainly worth noting that the Palm Pre Plus is currently sold out on both AT&T’s and Verizon’s websites. While we absolutely want this to be an indicator that new webOS-toting hardware is ready to roll in for these two carriers, we can’t leave out the possibility that both carriers happened to run out of stock at the same time. Plus, while the phone may be sold out online, as far as we know stores are still selling Pres as usual. For now feel free to speculate, but for me, until Sprint follows suit with the older original Palm Pre I’m not convinced.

This week’s big Android news mostly revolved around the launch of the Motorola Droid 2 on Verizon, but that’s certainly not all that is going on in the world of Android. Google also announced their new voice commands feature for phones with Android 2.2 as well as officially launching the service Chrome to Phone. There’s a whole lot more to read up on after the break.

Word broke loose at the Star Wars Convention going on in Orlando this week that the rumored R2-D2 version of the Motorola Droid 2 (released today) will be making its debut on the 30th of next month. There’s no word on how much extra this version will cost or how many units will be produced. Either way, it’s always nice to see something a little friendlier than the sharp lines and raw attitude that are typically associated with Motorola’s Android-flavored options.

Motorola’s Sanjay Jha Says MOTOBLUR Will Not Stick Around

Good news comes from Motorola Co-CEO Sanjay Jha today, who claims that Motorola’s social-focused Android skin MOTOBLUR, will begin to be phased out of the company’s future handsets. While Motorola had the right idea with MOTOBLUR, the implementation is off and the skin mostly results in a slower and more jumbled Android experience.
Dr. Sanjay Jha was quoted saying the following:
With MOTOBLUR, we have found that being able to convey the value proposition around MOTOBLUR is not an easy thing to do in a 30-second ad spot. We have decided that we will focus on the value proposition of products and not MOTOBLUR as a brand name in its own right. MOTOBLUR continues to be important and I think you will see increased functionality in MOTOBLUR. This notion of push-Internet is going to be very important to us, but as a brand name, which we make matter in front of consumers as a brand name, I don’t think that’s going to be our focus going forward, but we see the experiences that we deliver is being relevant and differentiating us.
With Motorola’s recent move away from MOTOBLUR by implementing the skin found on the Droid X and the upcoming Droid 2, it seemed evident that MOTOBLUR’s life was running short. Now, if only we can get Motorola to drop the whole skinning thing and just give us some stock Froyo to work with. Baby steps people, baby steps.

This Week In Android 8/1-8/7

Even though this week was BlackBerry Torch week, that doesn’t mean Android didn’t have its fair share of news. Multiple numbers came in this week showing tremendous growth in the market share and mind share of Android handsets, the Nexus One isn’t completely dead, and there were various other Android phone release rumors and announcements. Live Images of BlackBerry 6 on the Bold 9650 Appear

As a Bold 9650 owner I have been following BBleaks pretty closely for a chance to get a leaked version of BlackBerry 6 onto my Bold. The last few days have been pretty interesting with lots of teaser tweets and even time frames for when the leak would be available. Unfortunately those leaks haven’t come to fruition just yet, leaving 9650 users with OS 5 for a little longer. In the meantime however, BBleaks has posted some shots of BlackBerry 6 running on their 9650. The build shown is 6.0.0.80 and early tests conclude that the build is pretty sluggish, but I doubt that deters many users from wanting it. For now we are just going to have to wait a little longer, but feel free to take a peak at what BlackBerry 6 will look like on the Bold 9650 after the jump.
Droid X Froyo Update Coming in “Early September”

With the HTC EVO 4G and even the Motorola Droid getting Android 2.2 recently, we all know the Droid X is feeling a little left out. Today on Motorola’s support forum we got out first official word of an early September drop date for the update. An extra special fix is supposed to be mixed into this frosty dish of Froyo, as issues with Exchange 2003 email are expected to be fixed. While we are sad to see the previous promised release date-which put the update in the August time frame-come and go, we won’t complain that Motorola wants to add a little extra stability to the build.
