Mark this in the “about time” category. To me, the next logical question is “what happens to AppleCare?” Although the two aren’t totally on par, as AppleCare costs less, doesn’t cover accidental damage and offers technical support.

Still, AT&T is asking $13.99 a month which is pretty outrageous. Squaretrade, a highly respected iPhone/electronic insurer, charges at most (for iPhone 3GS 32 GB, it’s cheaper for lesser iPhones) $9.99 per month for two years or $144 upfront (two years), so half price! Same rules apply to both, insurance must be setup within 30 days of purchase. Just another reason to be disappointed in AT&T.
