As we reported on the weekend, the prototype that has been making its rounds around the ‘net emerged in Gizmodo’s headquarters today, and they have a full rundown of the internals, and why they believe the product is the real thing.

Though the device did not boot (it was remotely wiped from Apple and there is no OS to currently run on the device) the “Connect to Itunes” screen is apparently extremely high-resolution and gorgeous. Among the highlights are a front-facing camera for video conferencing as well as a new, sleek design and a ceramic-like material on the back, which is purported to help the signal.

We can’t add much more to it, though I want to say this is a welcome departure from the more garish-looking design of the past two iPhone generations. While I love the curved look of the 3G and 3GS on their own, in any case, even a thin skin, the device feels and looks bulky. I look forward to upgrading to the new device when it comes out, as I am used to a Nexus One which is a much more sexy device than the 3GS in my opinion.
