WebOS 1.4.1 Hitting International Carriers and Sprint!
There were rumors that WebOS 1.4.1 would be dropping today and PreCentral has confirmed that it’s a go. First the update hit international carriers in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Spain. With the update comes the usual bug fixes, but more importantly for international customers 1.4.1 brings the ability to purchase paid applications. Palm has gone ahead and made it official on their devloper blog so check it out for the full details.
That’s not all though as Sprint users are reporting that WebOS 1.4.1 is hitting their Pres and Pixis as well. Verizon does not appear to be receiving the update yet. In fact, PreCentral has a tip that states it could be weeks before it hits Big Red. Perhaps it’s not as interesting seeing how those in the US have had paid applications for quite a while now, but there are still some noteworthy bug fixes addressed in the update. Hit the ‘more’ button for the full changelog and drop us a comment if it’s hitting your device.
- You can now purchase paid applications outside the US
- Bluetooth Audio now works with BMWs
- Pinch to zoom is back in the document viewer
- Shutter delay on the camera has been tweaked
- The volume slider bug appears to have been fixed
- The bug where YouTube links on outgoing emails weren’t working has been fixed
- The forward gesture is back in the browser

If you recall last week’s article you will remember how much patching can change the experience of the webOS, and how it can address core issues with the operating system. We already know how bad Bell wants you to own a Palm Pre and now they have launched a new promotion making the deal even sweeter. Bell has decided that giving the Pre away for free (on a 3-year contract of course) wasn’t enough and now is offering people $15 off their monthly bill if
The webOS and the Argument for Patching

It seems a consensus among the blogosphere that the webOS is one of the most fluid and user-friendly mobile operating systems on the market today. That said, while it may be fun and innovative with its card-switching and intuitive multitasking, there are also a lot of serious issues surrounding the core webOS experience. Luckily for

The dust has settled from the HP buyout of Palm, and Palm enthusiasts have been patiently awaiting word on what will happen to their beloved webOS. There was some Twitter chat about possibility of HP using the beleaguered OS on their aging iPaq devices, which to me would be quite interesting to use. Today, Mark Hurd, CEO of
