RIM faces more patent disputes.
As you recall from Friday’s article Research in Motion is being accused of patent violation by Kodak. RIM is now facing additional patent disputes from Motorola. This dispute is attempting to stop the sale of BlackBerries in the US. Don’t get too freaked out though as lawsuits like this are a dime a dozen among companies as expansive as RIM. Likely what will happen is RIM will pay a few million, possibly hundreds of millions to the companies and that will be the end of it. Millions sounds like a lot to you and I but to large companies such as RIM its not significant enough to affect the stock prices much.
There is also a case against RIM by Nebraska’s Prism Technologies regarding authentication systems utilized in BlackBerries. The ITC has promised results from their investigation within 45 days. These two cases will likely span over years and then finally come to some sort of payout settlement. Don’t worry BlackBerry users these patent infringement cases generally don’t mean a whole lot and it certainly isn’t going to keep you from getting your BlackBerry fix.
Anyone think this will slow down RIM? Does the case really mean much? Let us know in the comments.

i think rim will stay strong, i mean everyone is getting a blackberry now, they’ll drop a few dollars and it’ll be over with. No worries
