Three and a half years ago, in 2010, the mobile industry (Canada and abroad) was a different place. BlackBerry (then RIM) was very much on the map having just launched the 9700, Google was unveiling their first Google-branded phone, the Nexus One, and good ol’ Samsung was unveiling the first device in a series that would eventually propel them passed Apple as the most valuable brand in the world.

It was also the year of inception for TheCellularGuru.com

Back then I was this precocious recovering telco salesman, looking for something new to sic my hungry teeth into. I needed a break from sales and generally working for “the man”. So I decided to dive into the unknown: the then lesser-known world of blogging; taking a sabbatical from paid work to focus doing it full time. All I really knew (or cared about) was mobile and I was lucky enough to have the help and support of my parents in making the leap of faith a bit easier.

Fast forward to present: I’ve attended hundreds of conferences and trade shows, built a network, and of course - along with the help of several fantastic writers - published almost 4,000 articles for your reading pleasure. All because I love and appreciate what I do, and who I do it for.

But, with evolution comes both growth and change. From blogging I was able to create long lasting invaluable relationships, both personally and professionally. The relationships have allowed me to act as a median between bloggers and over-excited start-ups; helping carve messaging, create stories, and most of all, get eyes on some fantastic forward-thinking ideas. All this sounds awesome, right? Herein lies the caveat: to be great at anything requires focus on perfecting said skill, something that doesn’t come from stretching oneself too thin, being everything to everyone. At some point, compromises need to be made and priorities shifted - no matter how difficult.

So here I stand, making that tough decision.

I still have a burning desire to keep my finger on the pulse of technology journalism, but also realize that I need to focus on developing my skills in mobile public relations. This is why, effective immediately, TheCellularGuru.com is joining forces with CanadianReviewer.com! The combination of the websites allows both myself, as well as CR’s founder Gadjo Sevilla, to keep doing what we love to do most: bring objective technology-focused journalism that you, the reader, will actually enjoy reading.

So, from the bottom of my Guru heart, I thank you all for your love, support, and engagement over these last three and a half years. I couldn’t have done any of it without you.
