Apple secures ‘iWatch’ trademark in multiple countries, sets off wide speculation

Apple has secured the ‘iWatch’ trademark in a number of countries including Japan, Russia and Mexico among others. This fuels speculation that Apple is getting into the emerging wearable computing industry and looking to develop another niche in consumer electronics. While trademarking a possible product name is never a guarantee that a product launch is around the corner, the iconic iPod was first discovered through similar trademark filings. Looks like we’ll need to wait and see if these trademarks lead to an actual product down in the near future.
