Google Glass developer figures out how to take photos with the wink of an eye

As if you didn’t have privacy concerns about Google Glass before, developer Mike DiGiovanni has figured out an even more discrete way to take photos using the device. DiGiovanni has just published the source code for his Glass app called “Winky”, which lets you take a picture using Glass just by winking your eye. In his announcement post on Google+, DiGiovanni explains that winking “really changes things”, allowing you to capture moments with minimal effort rather than a voice command or touch input that “takes you out of the moment”. According to The Verge, the app can also tell the difference between a conscious wink and a blink, as it needs to detect the scrunched up wrinkles of your eye to take a picture, so worry not about accidental snaps.
DiGiovanni has uploaded the source code for Winky to GitHub so developers can compile an APK and try it out right now. He also has a short demo video posted on Google+. Though he doesn’t address privacy implications outright, the video shows that you have to make a pretty obvious and exaggerated blink for the app to work. Still more subtle than a voice command, yet obvious if you’re looking.
