We’ve been hearing a lot about Twitter’s new music app over the last few weeks, mostly from various recording artists teasing the service on Twitter. Today Twitter has finally unveiled the new app, officially called Twitter #Music, and it is available now on the web and the iOS App Store - Twitter promises an Android version is coming soon. Twitter #Music is all about helping you discover new tunes, based on the artists you follow, music that is trending on Twitter, and what your follows are listening to. The app was officially unveiled this morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, with a full report published by ABC Tech’s Joanna Stern.

The app and website feature five main section: Popular, which displays trending music from across Twitter; Emerging, for discovering “hidden talent found in the Tweets”; Suggested, which populates with artists Twitter thinks you might like; #NowPlaying, music tweeted by the people you follow; and Me, which shows a mini version of your Twitter profile and a list of artists you follow.

Of course you can actually listen to music from within the app as well. All users will have access to 90 second song previews from iTunes, but you can also connect a Spotify or Rdio account and stream full tracks right inside the #Music app. You can also post a #NowPlaying tweet with a link and preview of the song you’re listening to, follow artists directly, or purchase tracks through iTunes.

Though I’ve only had a short time to play with the #Music app, at first blush it looks great and works really well. This is almost sure to become the next big thing among Twitter users, so hop on the bandwagon as soon as you can!
