Chat Heads come to iOS with Facebook 6.0 app update

The coolest feature of Facebook Home is now available on iOS… sort of. The Facebook app for iPhone and iPad was updated to version 6.0 today, bringing Chat Heads to iOS users. Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer and mobile head Cory Ondrejka announced the update on stage today at AllThingsD’s D: Dive Into Mobile conference. The only caveat is that Chat Heads on the iPhone and iPad will only appear inside the Facebook app, since Apple doesn’t allow developers to customize their OS the way they can with Android. Still, it’s nice to see Facebook working to incorporate some Home features into their iOS app, especially the best and most unique one. Other than that, Chat Heads looks and works exactly the same on iOS as it does on Android; the bubble will appear along the left edge, you can drag it it anywhere you’d like, and you can of course open and reply to messages from anywhere within the Facebook app.
The update also includes the News Feed redesign that Facebook unveiled last month, which is most noticeable on the iPad, and taking a cue from rival Path, Facebook is introducing Stickers that you can send back and forth to your friends in Messenger. While the 6.0 update is available to download right now, it’s worth noting that some of these new features aren’t readily available to everyone yet; Stickers and Chat Heads are, in typical Facebook fashion, rolling out slowly to iOS users. C’est la vie.
