UPDATE #2: As it turns out, LG pushed the update to prototype and test devices, hence why we received the new software on our review unit. As we mentioned below, Rogers says the consumer rollout of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean for the Optimus G is on schedule for “end of March”.

UPDATE: Rogers has gotten back to us saying the Jelly Bean update is NOT rolling out to the Optimus G yet. The target launch date for the update in Canada is still “end of March”, according to Rogers. However, we’ve still got an Optimus G running Jelly Bean… somehow. We’re investigating further to find out what’s going on.

What do we have here? While LG had previously stated that a Jelly Bean update for the Optimus G would hit Canada in “early Q2″, it seems the new software may be arriving early! An update to Android 4.1.2 just hit our Rogers Optimus G, bringing some sweet Jelly Bean goodness to the device. Upon first impression the software feels much smoother and more responsive than the Ice Cream Sandwich build it shipped with, but that’s all we know about the update so far.

LG started rolling out Jelly Bean for the Optimus G in international markets in January, while Sprint started pushing out the update yesterday. The Optimus G that we have is running on Rogers, and we just received the update today, but if the rollout has begun we expect it will hit other carriers shortly. We’ve reached out to Rogers for comment, and we’ll update when we hear back. For now, if you’re an Optimus G owner clamouring for Jelly Bean, head into Settings > About Phone to see if you’ve got an update waiting!
