Rogers announces new 90 day unlocking policy, $8/day roaming data add-on

Rogers has announced a new unlocking policy that will allow eligible customers to unlock their phone just 90 days after the start of their contract, according to a post on Rogers’ RedBoard. Previously, customers had to wait until the end of their 2 or 3-year contract before they could unlock their device, but this new policy, which goes into effect in March, will give customers even more freedom with their phones. The unlock will cost $50, and can be done at any Rogers store nationwide.
In addition, Rogers has also revealed a new roaming data add-on that will be available later this spring. The new “pay-per-use” option will cost $7.99, and gives customers travelling to the U.S. access to 50MB of data for 24 hours. Rogers claims that is enough data to view “approximately 50 maps, 200 web pages, 1,000 emails or over 5,000 tweets”.
Rogers says both of these initiatives are aimed at making international travel easier for their customers, whether they choose to use an international SIM or a roaming package.
