Bell and Virgin will now unlock your iPhone (but of course there’s a catch)

This was bound to happen. Long after Rogers and TELUS, Bell has finally caved to the black market demand, and has begun offering iPhone unlocking as a paid service. Effective today, November 26th, for $75, Bell will unlock any model iPhone. Any. Of course, this offering does come with some stipulations:
- Must own iPhone outright (all models supported, Bell and Virgin)
- Must not be on contract
- Must be a post-paid Virgin Mobile or Bell Mobility customer
- $75 onetime payment via Credit Card
So, although Bell WILL now unlock your iPhone, this only applies to those NOT on contract, which basically excludes everyone with a recently-purchased iPhone 5.
Bell plans on launching this service as a “phased approach” and based on popularity, will expand guidelines in 2013. Thoughts?
