Taking the 2013 Acura TSX out for a spin

There is something about the Acura TSX that makes you think about it long after you’ve powered it down for the night. It’s not quite a premium luxury brand like it’s older brother the RL, it’s not nearly as compact as it’s little brother the ILX, and it’s not quite as big/bloaty as the TL. It falls somewhere comfortably in the middle and we are comfortable with that. Read on to find out my thoughts after a week with this bad boy.

Experience:

The Car Connection puts it perfectly: “the TSX hits the right mark for the type who want the premium look, a more nimble driving feel, and some added comfort and practicality that you may end up giving up with traditional sport sedans like the BMW 3-Series or Infiniti G37″.

What is essentially the European Honda Accord, the TSX is well-styled both inside and out and marketed directly at my demographic: the young professional. The sharp edges of the body, matched with the technology-focused interior make it as attractive as it is fun to drive. One of my favorite features of the sportier Acura’s (including this one) are the easy access buttons. They make scanning music, pairing a phone, and using the navigation seamless and enjoyable.

Performance:

With a 280-HP, 3.5-litre V6 Engine, the TSX soars. While it’s not a performance car by any means, it does offer a fun punch to those looking to rip up the highway on a gorgeous day.

As with most cars I’ve spoken about, I probably would have had more fun with this car in a 6-speed manual, than the automatic I drove, but who am I to complain?

One thing I was very impressed with was the fuel economy. Even when driving it less than perfect, I received a very generous 21mpg city driving and 29 on the highway; the EPA calls for 22/30.

Overall:

Light, quick, fun, and easy to maneuver - 3 features that I wish every car had. Considering I currently own a 2001 Honda Accord, so other than the features included - being a 2013 and all - I felt right at home in the TSX. With a price point of $31,800 from Acura, it is affordable and offers exactly what you’d expect for the money.
