Among the many reasons to love Nokia, and all they have done for the mobile world, is their decision to launch many of their flagships as Pentaband devices. What does Pentaband mean? It means a device runs 5 bands (get it Penta-Band): 850/900/1700/1900/2100Mhz. In layman terms: it will work on 3G/HSPA+ and AWS frequencies aka. Rogers, TELUS, Bell, Mobilicity, and WIND.

Many in-market devices, such as the Galaxy Nexus feature this and can work on all carriers with just the drop of a sim.

As the Lumia’s passed through the FCC, it was revealed that they (Nokia) will keep the tradition alive (N8, X7) and run the aforementioned 850/1900Mhz and AWS frequencies to work on all Canaid

This benefit not only helps cost-wary buyers who may want the features of the Lumia 920 without the pricing and contract that come with the big 3; It also helps travellers. One can easily use the device in Canada, then hop over to the US and use a much more affordable sim from T-Mobile, thus eliminating their roaming fees entirely. Cool, huh?

Knowing this makes me even more excited about the forthcoming 820 and 920 devices respectively, which are set to launch in the next few months.
