Rumor: Android to replace Symbian in future Vertu devices?

We spoke earlier this summer about Nokia’s desire to shed some financial weight and sell their high-end Symbian-powered Vertu line of devices. Since then, Nokia reached an agreement with private equity firm EQT for about $250-million US and unloaded Vertu and all its assets.
In a simple twist of fate, Anssi Vanjoki, a former 20-year veteran of Nokia, has been named the new CEO of Vertu by EQT. Sources are saying that his first order of business as CEO, possibly as a jab to former colleague and current CEO of Nokia Stephen Elop, is replacing the defunct Symbian OS with a more popular usable Android OS. Boom.
No word on when the new devices would launch, or pricing for that matter, but the OS switch will definitely make for a much easier sell on the already ultra-expensive devices.
