Google Maps for iOS 6 just an Apple approval away?

People are angry. Very angry. So angry that they’ve created a Tumblr - which is freaking hilarious - to point out each and every blunder on Apple’s part with the launch of iOS 6 maps. If you are one of the millions who upgraded yesterday to iOS6, you’ll notice, as was announced, that Apple has removed Google maps from its roster of pre-installed apps (similar fashion to their YouTube app). So what now? Well, you’re in luck; apparently Google has made a stand-alone “Maps” app for the AppStore, and it’s a mere approval away from being downloadable, at least as per Apple dev-whiz Steve Stroughton-Smith.
Steve said:
“The same sources say that Google is preparing a Google Maps app for iOS6, which will appear in time. No official statement has been made and there will inevitably be questions over whether Apple will approve it in the App Store. (Apple might not, on the basis that it “competes with existing functionality”, but would invite a further backlash if it did.)”
Interesting.
Apple is known for taking extensive amounts of time approving any Google app (think back to Google Voice), let alone Maps. Let’s see how this one plays out.
