Popular music discovery app “Shazam” hits 250-million user milestone

I can confidently assume that ANYONE with a smartphone has, at one point or another, used Shazam in the car, at a restaurant, or at a nightclub. What the app does is “listen” to the song you want to identify and uses algorithms to determine which song it is and provide links to iTunes (or depending on what device you’re using, another music purchasing service) to download said track. It was genius then, still remains genius now, and deserves all the accolades it gets - it simply works.
Shazam has announced that they have reached a huge milestone: 250-million users, making it one of the most downloaded apps of all time. With the milestone, they have also officially announced their new feature called “TV tagging”. The feature will tell you who the actors on the show are or what song is playing; there’s even support for sports scores, although local programming won’t register. A great addition to one of my favorite, and most used, apps.
You can download Shazam for any mobile device platform via its respective App Store or via Shazam.com here
