I’m going on 28 this year and still dread when September comes. Regardless of not being a full-time student - i’m a part time kinda guy - there is something about the cool weather, changing colours, and lack of skin that simply leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Aside from the aforementioned reasons, there is also the thought of the technology investment that will be needed to survive another year - yes, I know, there is a plethora. So, being the caring guy that I am, I decided to whip together a list of phones that I think deserve some attention when you’re doing your back to school research. Hey, it’s the least I can do.

Without further adieu, here is a list of my top 5 “Go To” devices heading into fall:

iPhone 4S

- a year later, this device is still the hottest thing on the block, and out of box, easiest to orientate yourself with.

- as cheap as $99 on a 3-year term because the carriers are trying to clean up inventory for next months “new iPhone” announcement.

Samsung Galaxy S 3
- 1 thing I can say without bias: Samsung makes good phones. With Android 4.0, a gorgeous 4.8-inch screen and an 8-MP camera, there is a reason why this is the best phone available in Canada currently.
- You can grab it for $159.99 on a 3-year term from Rogers click here, Bell here, or TELUS here

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

This was Samsungs flagship device at the beginning of the year (rumoured refresher coming this year as well), and the first to launch with Android 4.0 (ICS). It is fantastic, and cheap, and can be picked up for as low as $300 from Mobilicity.

HTC One X
- To date, this is still my favorite Android phone on the market. The unibody design makes it impeccable in the hand and actually my primary driver. It features a 4.7-inch super LCD screen and packs Beats Audio for listening on the go.

Grab it in white from Rogers here for $99.99, or for $79.99 in black from TELUS here

Nokia Lumia 900
- I absolutely love the simplicity and UI of Windows Phone. It works, and despite some notification shortcomings set to be fixed with Windows Phone 8, works well. With a 4.3-inch screen, LTE speeds, and a growing marketplace - it’s a great change from the iOS, Android, BlackBerry craze and even better buy for only $29.99 on a 3-year term exclusively from Rogers.

I am fairly positive many won’t agree with my opinion on this. That’s ok. Feel free to sound off below what you think the best phones for back to school are, I welcome all opinion, criticism, and comments! Remember though: the phones MUST be in-market as of Sept. 2nd to be included.

Editors Note: It really does make me sad, excluding RIM’s fledgling BlackBerry brand from this list, but such is the state of their product line right now. Hopefully, this time next year, BlackBerry 10 is everything RIM needs it to be and can find its way back onto this list.
