Before I was even given the keys to this baby, the copy writing on the pamphlet stuck out like fresh yellow highlighter on lined paper. It read “The Escalade is the epitome of a luxury SUV. Bar none, it is the best experience both inside and out, and will remain the benchmark for luxury SUV’s for years to come.” Like seriously, how can you not get goosebumps on your arm from reading that right before you get into the car? I know I did and it set the precedent for the week to follow.

There is something about the design of this car that commands attention. It’s like that hot blonde with a lil’ red dress walking down the street - old, young, man, woman, everyone stops to take a look.

That’s how it feels to drive through a city - or on a highway - in a Cadillac Escalade.

The moment you sit in the big, hand-stitched leather chair, you feel like you’re in the cockpit of a plane. You’re made to feel like a king with all the controls subtly placed at your finger tips, most leather wrapped for comfort, a subtle, detailed feature, of which GM is known. In the spirit of feeling like a king when driving it, let’s take a look at what’s under the hood to see what makes this baby purr.

The specs listed are generic for all model Cadillac Escalade. I drove the Escalade Hybrid for the week of mention.

Experiencing the truck is something that isn’t easy to express with words. This is, always has been, and always will be my favorite SUV. With the exception of maneuvering around tight turns (the thing is a boat), it really is a fun SUV to experience. When you are driving, it’s as if you’re floating, you barely feel the speed you’re going, until you actually look at the speedometer and say “oh shit”. Ambient noises outside are shut out, and bumps in the road are absorbed by the Magnetic ride control, built right into the suspension. Now, I know you might be saying “what about the gas? An SUV like that must guzzle it” Honestly, it wasn’t that bad at all. A full tank, filled up at $1.30/liter, cost me roughly $97.00 and gave me just over 600KM, mainly highway driven.

When you’re looking to buy a Cadillac Escalade, you’re buying for the experience, name, and of course reputation - not gas mileage. There are plenty of other SUV’s on the market that would probably be cheaper and better on gas

Thus far, I have yet to feel more powerful and confident on the road than I did in the 2012 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. It deserves the attention it commands, and has earned the popularity that is has garnered.
