Hands on with the Motorola Droid RAZR

The first word that came out of my mouth when I held the new Motorola RAZR was WOW. This device is super light, super thin, and super powerful. When I say thin, I mean thin, the thing is only 7.1mm thick; kinda makes Apple want to send the iPhone to fat camp. When you hold a device this light you expect it to feel cheap, but Motorola did not skimp out on specs. It has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.3″ Super AMOLED qHD screen with Gorilla Glass, has water repellent nanocoating protecting the device from your everyday spills, as well as KEVLAR around back if you feel so inclined to take it out to the range (we do not suggest this). Most devices that offer this type of ruggedness are bulky and heavy, but the Motorola RAZR is far from that; as mentioned that it is surprisingly light. You can also find 16GB of storage inside with support for microSD cards up to 32GB, an 8MP camera that can shoot video at 1080p as well as stream 1080p when connected to your HDTV, and lastly it has an 1800 mAh battery that is not removable.
There are a few interesting apps that comes pre-loaded: first is Motorola SmartActions (much like the app Tasker) which is used to manage your battery and your everyday activities; can turn Wi-Fi on when you’re at home, turn volume down when at work or slow down the processor when your battery is getting low. Second is MotoCast, Motorola’s answers to iCloud. Motocast allows you to access anything on your desktop at home including documents, music, photos and files no matter where you are in the world. In the demo, the rep showed us his computer at home, you could view all your photos, and then download them individual to your phone, and if you took a picture with your phone, it would upload them to your PC.
Many accessories will be available for the Motorola RAZR including two different keyboards and two different laptop docks. One will have a 14.1″ screen with an integrated webcam, while the other will have a 10.1″ minus the webcam. As well there will be the HD dock to allow you to plug the device into your HDTV, which will give you a full Mozilla Firefox browser. Last but not least is the wireless mouse ( see below) which also can be used as a hand held device that allows you to answer calls and listen/ talk directly when the phone is docked in either the laptop dock or the HD dock.
Overall the Motorola RAZR is a phone that should be on your Christmas list. The things this device can do is unreal, using the HD dock along with a wireless keyboard and mouse will turn your phone/media/social experience upside down, no longer will you need to have a phone, media center PC and a laptop; this device does it all while never missing a call or email. Being able to plug it into a laptop dock, giving you that netbook experience as well just shows how netbooks are a thing of the past as these devices are more powerful than the average netbook. If you are looking for the “Ferrari” of Android phones, this is the one for you; this phone will do everything you want and more.
This device will be exclusive to Rogers and you can find it the beginning of November for $149.99 on a 3 year term or $549.99 outright (prices have not been confirmed).
