Review: Plantronics Marque 155 bluetooth headset

Picture this: you’re sitting in your favourite coffee shop, minding your own business, pretending to grind out that project when you’re really creeping your friend’s Facebook profile, living vicariously through her partying ways. Everything’s legit, right? As you do your thang, the door opens and in walks a young man jabbering away on his phone. You glance over at their ears and notice that they don’t wear a headset. Now you begin to question yourself. Are they crazy? Are you crazy? Do you look away or cave to your inner child and stare in amazement? Then, out of nowhere, Mr. Random Guy stops talking, taps their ear Star Trek-style, and heads nonchalantly towards the barista, ready to order their venti. Wait. What? Did your eyes deceive you?
Well, friends, the answer is no. Said person was using the Plantronics Marque 155 headset, their smallest headset to date. Now you may wonder how I came up with that story. It happened to me firsthand. The difference? I was Mr. Random Guy, ordering the venti, and the other person approached me to ask what I was using because they were taken aback by the size of the headset. And we all know how much size matters
I’ve used the Marque for a few weeks now and many people have appeared to notice the device. This instance felt like the most notable one because the person actually approached me. As we all know, the Bluetooth accessory market is oversaturated to the extent that some enterprising individual could easily create a blog exclusively dedicated to reviews of said products. (Stop looking in my direction, I already have a blog.)
This headset’s worth writing about. Now that you know my thoughts about ventis, Facebook creeping, and the crappy state of the Bluetooth peripherals market, here are some more details on the Marque.
Impossibly small: The headset weighs only 7 grams. Yes, 7 grams. It’s light as a feather and fits so comfortably in your ear that you may even forget about it. Just don’t fall asleep with it on. That’s weird.
Voice Capabilities: When I use this headset, I often wonder about the identity of this “Siri” girl. The headset works so intuitively that it’s actually kind of scary. Underlying technical advancements come courtesy of the embedded Vocalyst Voice and Text Services. Press the middle button before you speak the corresponding command and you’re off and running. Each purchase of the Marque M155 comes with a year’s subscription to the cloud-based Vocalyst service, so users have no need to worry about added expenses.
The Sound: This, friends, is the nail-biter. Crystal clear with no discernable interference, the Marque M155 is one of the best sounding headsets that I’ve ever used. Even better, it features Bluetooth A2DP for listening to your tunes in stereo.
Battery Life: Even with very heavy use, I got a solid week out of this headset before needing to recharge, and that included using A2DP.
At $59.99, this headset is a steal. It’s the smallest headset produced by Plantronics and the first to pull me away from my beloved Jawbone Prime. Sold yet? You can pick it up from the Plantronics website here in black or white.
