It’s official: Samsung and Google have finally announced the Galaxy Nexus, not much is new here as the specs and images have all been leaked already, however, as a refresher here are the specs:

(Two notable points - before we talk about the specifics of the internals - are that this Samsung device will finally have LED notifications, and the back cover is made of a “textured hyperskin” allowing for non-slip and easy gripping)

1.2Ghz TI OMAP 4460 dual-core processor

1GB RAM

32GB internal storage (no microSD slot)

4.65″ 720×1280 pixel Super AMOLED HD display

5MP camera w/ LED flash, 1080p video capture with facial recognition and no shutter lag

Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi (b/g/n), NFC, GPS

Accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, barometer

HSPA+ and LTE

1750mAh battery

4.29mm bezel

8.94mm thin

More details about the new Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich will come, so stayed tuned as the news unfolds. But, if that isn’t enough, the folks over at thisismynext had a chance to get hands-on with it earlier today OR - if you haven’t already - you can check out the live stream from the day over at Androids YouTube page.

Does the Galaxy Nexus fulfill you Android needs, will you be picking one up? Sound off in the comments.

I’m fascinated by the included features, but to be honest, the notable points you mentioned at the top are far more interesting for me. LED notifications are one of those small but surprisingly useful features. Something you don’t really appreciate until you don’t have it.

The non-slip, easy grip case is useful too. I find my hands slip on my Samsung Android more than they did on the previous phones.

Spec wise it’s certainly interesting, but I confess I’m not blown away. For example, I’m a bit surprised that they didn’t go for an 8MP camera, as those seem to be becoming a bit more common now.
