With his keynote well underway, co-CEO Mike Lazaridis has already made many-a-fanboy’s smile. He has already announced the forthcoming new OS entitled BBX, which will allow devices to run their ever-so-necessary new QNX platform, and now he has updated us all on just how well their BlackBerry App World is actually doing. As for the numbers? It has seen 1 billion downloads to date, yes, 1 billion, with over 5 million downloads every day being requested - not too shabby, eh? Mr. Lazaridis also went on to say: “the BlackBerry subscriber base increased 50 million last year, today there are 70 million subscribers worldwide; 115 million smartphones, today they have sold 165 million (no increase). BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) has grown from 28 million to 50 million in one year.

We are updating as stories unfold, stay tuned.
