iPhone 4S owners have now spent less than 24 hours pining for, then playing incessantly with, Apple’s new virtual assistant Siri, while iPhone 4 owners have been left sitting in the corner softly singing “Jessie’s Girl” to themselves. The need to fill that void has caused a developer to roll up his sleeves and get to work, and not even a full day after the launch of the iPhone 4S, Siri has been coaxed out of her home and brought home to meet the parents of its older sibling.

The developer in question is a gentleman by the name of Steven Troughton-Smith, and his hard work and knowledge is mainly responsible for the presence of Siri on the iPhone 4, something that will undoubtedly endear him to many a user that couldn’t or wouldn’t spring for an upgraded iPhone 4S, choosing instead to stay with last year’s model. While there is still some work to be done before this is ready for general consumption, the video below shows some amazing promise for the port, running smoothly on the older hardware of the iPhone 4. One of the major hurdles left to clear in the porting process is a lack of communication with Apple’s servers, so while this is exciting news, there is still work to be done.
