Motorola Mobility and Best Buy Announce Motorola XOOM™ Family Edition - For Kids of All Ages

Most tablets are marketed towards the teenage crowd and young adults but nowadays kids are using tablets just as much as mom, dad and their older siblings. So the major concern for parents is; how to protect their kids from inappropriate content like they are able to do with their home computer?
Motorola Mobility to the rescue. They have just announced a special edition of the popular XOOM tablet named the XOOM Family Edition, exclusive to Best Buy.
The XOOM Family Edition comes pre-loaded with games, tv shows, video tools; $40 worth of applications. It comes with Kid Zone which locks the home button and only allows the user to access content the parent deems appropriate. MotoPack is also available which “ showcases a selection of high-quality, popular apps”. The device is not just meant for the youngsters, you can turn off the parental control and use the tablet just like the original XOOM which now includes a new cloud service from Google Mobile and Amazon.
As for availability, the XOOM Family Edition will be an unbelievable $379 for a limited time over at your local Best Buy starting October 16th.
Now parents can feel safe knowing their kids can play, learn and have fun safely thanks to Motorola Mobility.
The specs for the XOOM Family Edition are the same you would find with the original XOOM.

Is having a “kid mode” on your tablet enough of a benefit for you to drop the cash on the Xoom, rather than one of the other tablets on the market? Personally if I’m going to hand over a $400 piece of hardware to a kid, I’d want more than just added software, a hardware change to help protect the device itself might be adviseable.
