Well it’s been 5 months since the last stable release of CyanogenMod so you knew that something big coming. That something is Cyanogenmod 7.1 running on Android Gingerbread 2.3.7. Cyanogenmod 7.1 supports 68 devices and can now add the following to that list;

HTC Desire S, Incredible S, Incredible 2

LG Optimus 2X and T-Mobile G2x

Motorola Backflip (Motus), Cliq / Cliq XT, Defy, Droid 2, Droid X

Samsung Captivate, Fascinate, Mesmerize, Showcase, Vibrant, Galaxy S, Galaxy S2 (multiple carriers)

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Neo, Xperia Play, Xperia Ray, Xperia Arc

ZTE V9

Good news for TouchPad owners, like myself, it along with the EVO 3D, Optimus 3D and many others will be supported in the “coming weeks”.

Head over here to check out the changelog.

There are two ways to download CyanogenMod, ROM Manager or over at cyanogenmod.com. As always you will also need the newest Google Apps which you can again find in ROM Manager or here gapp20110828.

There is also talk about CyanogenMod 9.

AndroidPolice state

“As the Honeycomb source will remain unpublished, the upcoming open source release of Android Ice Cream Sandwich will be merged into CM and assigned version 9 (as soon as Google releases the source that is). So don’t be surprised when you see CM9 without ever seeing CM8.”
