When I woke up yesterday morning, and checked my timeline, over half the tweets I read were frustrated curses regarding iPhone 4S pre-orders not going through. Sites were crashing due to traffic, and people who had gotten up at the ungodly hour of 3AM to get the first crack at the device were tired and cranky. If you were one of those who couldn’t get your pre-order in, or maybe sanity prevailed and you slept until a normal hour, you have a chance this weekend at Best Buy and Future Shop.

Both of the chains have announced that from October 8-10 they will be accepting pre-orders in-store, with a $50 deposit. All pre-orders will be available for pickup on the 14th, bright and squirrelly, with a note that all must be claimed by 10am. Doors will open at 8am for those making a pickup, so if you really need to run to either of the stores for a new USB stick, that *might* not be the best time.

In carrier news, Koodo Mobile is expected to offer the iPhone 4S and 8GB iPhone 4 as of the 14th, although it isn’t likely preorders will be available through the carrier, so it’ll be first-come-first-served. Price point is unknown at this point, but is expected to come in around $160 on a 3-year commitment and $500 on the Tab.

MTS has surprisingly stepped up and said they will also be carrying the iPhone 4S, a deviation from the norm for the regional carrier, who typically gets devices added to their lineup when Roger’s drops them from theirs. It’s a nice change for MTS loyalists, who typically are the last in Manitoba to get the latest and greatest (I kid you not, the MTS ad in Winnipeg Airport features an 8330 Curve, and a Pearl 8100) although don’t get too excited yet, they still haven’t confirmed a date.
