Premiere case makers Otterbox already on the ball with cases for the 4S

We got an email yesterday afternoon from Otterbox, bare hours after the iPhone 4S was announced, giving us a heads up on the newest additions to the catalogue, Defender, Reflex, Commuter and Impact series cases for the iPhone 4S. As you well know, haveing ready one of our reviews or posts on the company, Otterbox is a favourite around here for their durable, stylish cases. Available in a wide range of colours, the cases will be hitting product trsting once the 4S is available on the 14th, and should be hitting the market shortly thereafter.

Since the 4S is the exact same dimensions at the 4…why is there a need to manufacture cases specifically for the 4S when 4 cases will work

There isn’t in a general sense. It’s all marketing, my friend, just like that “New and Improved” sticker on your laundry detergent. Do you NEED that case, when your iPhone 4 case would do just as well? Short answer, no. But, you just dropped several hundred on a new device, want a case, and the general consumer (I’m generalizing) is going to grab the case labelled as being for the 4S, not knowing any better. These types of situations are exactly why it pays to be an informed consumer.
