For those who have been completely cut off from the world, social media, and the internet for the past 6 months, apparently Apple is supposed to be releasing the latest new-fangled iPhone this fall, or maybe not. (Oh, and thank you for being a discerning reader and coming directly to thecellularguru.com to get your tech news fix, we appreciate it) As is typical, rumours have been flying around for weeks about the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S, with very little actually confirmed. The PR machine at 1 Infinite Loop has been busy, and today Apple started sending out the invite above, inviting people to its event on October 4th.

Finally, no more blurry images in a sushi plate, leaked case specs, or unsubstantiated rumours from corporate ninjas, one week from now Mr. Cook (or possibly Jobs) will stand up in front of a crowd - and we can only assume roughly 6 million live bloggers- and make the latest announcement, presumably a new device. Who knows what rumours will fly this week in anticipation of the event, perhaps another prototype will be left behind at a Taco Bell.

One week left, and Apple has managed another buzz-generating coup with the invite itself, causing no end of speculation on Twitter and blog commentary as to the meaning of that fourth icon. Some state that it hints at 1 more carrier, namely Sprint, while others are raining on the collective parade saying that it means that only 1 phone will be announced. The tagline of “Let’s talk iPhone” is rumoured to be a reference to a new voice-controlled feature dubbed Assistant.

Whatever it might mean, we will see no end of speculation over the next week as the buzz ramps up into high gear. I’ll toss my theory into the mix, the “1″ symbolizes the One Ring, meaning Jobs will finally unmask himself as Sauron and give a royal beat-down to Saurumon (Cook) on stage. No word on who will play Gollum, but we speculate he is quite the “Genius”.
