Sony announces Sony Tablet S, available for pre-order now, release in September
Earlier today, Sony announced a new tablet, dubbed the “Sony Tablet S”, making it available for pre-order immediately and pegged the shelf date in September. The tablet is set to run Android 3.1, more popularly known as Honeycomb, sports a 9.4 inch screen, and a NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU processor.
Weighing in at 590 grams, and designed with an “asymmetric design” to conform better to the needs of the end-user, I have to admit that the promotional shots look pretty sexy, as you can see above. Sony is also pushing hard on the “netwroked entertainment” aspect of the device, with a partial Video Unlimited service available at launch for media fans, and an integrated Reader Store for the bookish types. The tablet is also PlayStation certified, allowing users to experience out-of-the-box gaming with games like Crash Bandicoot, and downloadable PSone and PSP titles available as well in an online store.
Sony is definitely hitting another high note with theis tablet, with cross-device integration with other Sony products. DLNA compatible BRAVIA TVs will be able to display “thrown” photos from the device, and the tablet is capable of becoming a mulitmedia remote controlling all your home audio/video components.
Both 16GB and 32GB models will be available at launch, with price points sitting at $500 and $600 respectively. For more details, head on over to sony.ca/tablet
