Update: Late last night - and shortly after publishing this post - TheCellularGuru.com was personally approached by Mobilicity CEO Dave Dobbin who assured that any rumors going around of Mobilicity’s financial pains are simply just that, rumors. Since securing their 250 Million dollar round of funding back in April the company continues to thrive in the very competitive Canadian market and in Dave’s words exactly “are going nowhere but up”. We were happy to be informed that this rumor is indeed untrue, and more so to hear that Mobilicity is both alive and well and wish them nothing but the best for the future.

Old and new employees of Mobilicity are apparently creating quite a buzz between themselves, with rumours abounding that Canadian Carrier Mobilicity may be shutting its doors and going under. The company, which covers Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa, seems to be having troubles getting new subscribers, finding it difficult to compete with the larger carriers, who have such a hold on the Canadian market.

Difficult as it is for a smaller independent carrier to gain a foothold in the market, Mobilicity managed to carve a niche for themselves, but it seems they have lost whatever ground they have gained financially, according to sources. Looking at an empty bank account and faced with the overwhelming opposition of the big boys, it sounds like Mobilicity will cut their losses and fold.

[thanks tipster]
