MTS to carry the BlackBerry 9810 and 9900, lags behind on release as usual

For those looking to upgrade their BlackBerry smartphone on MTS, they have announced they will be carrying the 9810 and 9900 models. With the 9810 slated for release at the end of August, and the 9900 not scheduled for release until October, MTS will need to rely on some heavy customer loyalty if they intend to sign enough people to these, or some seriously deep discounts on the pricing. Most consumers looking to grab one of these devices can already have one in hand from Rogers or Telus much sooner, and earlier this year MTS lost the one edge they had to keep subscribers. With the partnership they have entered into with Rogers, they effectively neutered themselves, giving up their position as the only network covering all of Manitoba.
Given that I could go out today, grab a 9900 from Rogers, and enjoy the exact same service that I would have from MTS, I find it very hard to see any reason why I would bother to wait until October. It remains to be seen what will happen, and hopefully MTS will at least come out of the gate with some impressive prices to woo potential customers.
