Sprint axes plans for 4G WiMAX BlackBerry PlayBook
The BlackBerry PlayBook just took another blow to the chin, as word broke this afternoon that Sprint has abandoned its plans to release a 4G WiMAX version of the tablet. According to Paget Alves of Sprint, the decision came down to the PlayBook’s poor reception, noting that while “it’s an interesting concept, it just hasn’t caught on with business customers as much as [RIM] would like. There are so many tablets in the market, it creates confusion for the average customer.” Sprint maintains the decision to not release the 4G PlayBook has had no impact on its relationship with RIM.
