BlackBerry PlayBook now certified for use by the US Government
On Thursday, RIM released a statement announcing that its flagship tablet PlayBook has received certification for use within the US Government, making it the first tablet to achieve such status. The certification, dubbed “FIPS 140-2″ is the federal processing standard used to judge the security of products capable of accessing the Internet.
In the press release, RIM said, “This certification enables the U.S. federal government to buy with confidence knowing that the PlayBook meets their computing policy requirements for protecting sensitive information,” said Scott Totzke, a senior vice-president for BlackBerry security at RIM.
