BlackBerry Bold 9900 to feature wireless charging?

This site is no stranger to wireless charging for phones such as PowerMat, whose products we have extensively reviewed. The only real downfall to systems like the PowerMat system is that they’re bulky and useless unless all pieces of the kit are present. Well, that may all change now. Word has it that RIM has been secretly working on implementing a wireless charging systems to their new BlackBerry 7 devices, the first of which will be the forthcoming BlackBerry 9900. It is common knowledge that RIM is part of the Qi Wireless Consortium, a group which promotes magnetic conductive charging (unlike inductive which has metal exposed); although we can’t be sure which form of charging the 9900 will use. So this does actually make a lot of sense.
The actual rumor is that the technology is built into the back cover of the device (think Palm’s Touchstone), while still maintaining two tiny prongs at the bottom of the device for those who prefer to use the traditional cradle. Despite not receiving official confirmation, yet, all signs are pointing to this new feature being a reality, making it another new addition to the BlackBerry 7 devices along with NFC communication and personal wireless hot spot, all of which are long desired and sought after features.
