Review: Otterbox Commuter for iPhone 4

If you’re an avid smartphone user, odds are that not only have you heard of Otterbox, but that you’ve owned one of their cases for a previous device you’ve used. Sure, keeping up with cases on each and every device you have can become quite an expense, but with a device like the iPhone 4, do you really want to risk dropping it while it lacks complete protection? The risk was not one that I was willing to take, so I took the plunge and ordered an Otterbox Commuter for my iPhone 4. Because while I loved the feel of the naked device, it feels even better completely protected.
When the Otterbox first arrived at the house I was quite excited to put it on. I had chosen the Commuter as it has always been my favorite in their line up, and I was happy to see that it carried the same style as all the previous ones I had owned. The two-piece design allows for maximum protection and extremely easy instillation, which is always a plus. The inner-shell is a rubber-type case that wraps around the device, and then over top of that you snap a hard pastic piece which provides protection against hard objects. It took me a couple of minutes to get the rubber pieces properly aligned inside of the plastic shell, but once it was all set it was a match made in heaven.
My biggest fear when ordering a case is that it won’t perfectly fit the device and drive me nuts, and until I had the Otterbox fully installed I had the same feeling. The case covers all open ports, like the charging port and headphone jack, which scares me because if it the isn’t perfect it will bubble out and bother me, but luckily that was not the case with this one, as each piece fit perfectly in its place and there were no wishes left unfulfilled. The back of the case offers a cut out which showcases the Apple logo, it will be personal preference if you enjoy that part or not. Personally, I wish it was solid right across as that is a cleaner look, but hey, that Apple logo is quite nice as well.
Overall, the Otterbox Commuter fit my iPhone like a glove, I had no fears of the case falling off, or the device not being protected while in the hands of the Otterbox case. With many color options there is sure to be one that fits just about everyones liking, and if you are looking for a case that maximizes protection, without adding a crazy amount of bulk, look no further.
