Even though the N9 was recently announced and runs MeeGo (Nokia’s native operating system) some are speculating that Meego’s days were numbered when it was announced that Nokia would be making phones running the Windows Phone 7 operating system.

The CEO of Nokia, Stephen Elop, said that one of the flaws of MeeGo is that there are so few devices in the pipeline for the operating system. Well Nokia’s Senior Software Engineer, Felipe Contreras, wants to set Elop straight because Contreras is a software engineer. As Contreras explains, it would be easy to make devices with the current chipset/operating system that are going into the N9 therefore, it would be easy for them to make more devices with this combination. If they wanted to port the operating system to a different chipset, it could take some time and work, but it could be done.

On the flip side, as Contreras explains, Windows Phone 7 suffers from what Elop is talking about, as only the Qualcomm snapdragon can run the Windows operating system.

Contreras seems upset in this blog post and, in my opinion, with good reason. For someone with technical know-how to be told a see-through excuse with no backing, it must be hard to keep quiet.

Elop has also announced his faith that Nokia will release a Windows phone by the end of the year.

A quick side note, Nokia’s N9 may have the fastest camera – much faster than any windows phone can brag of.
