Next iPhone on Track for September Release, Plus a List of iOS5 features

iOS 5 is presently in developer beta release and will be released to the public in the fall of this year. According to 9to5Mac, the new iPhone is reaching the final testing stage, which means it’s still on track for the rumored September release date.

In honor of this news, here is an exhaustive list of new features:

1. Updated Lockscreen

2. New Welcome Screen when you start using the phone for first time.

3. PC Free Activation.

4. Notifications Center

5. Quick Camera launch from Lockscreen

6. Stocks and weather built into Notifications Center

7. iPod app is renamed to Music with new icon.

8. New Videos.app

9. iMessage

10. SMS bubbles are green in color and iMessage appears baby blue.

11. Newsstand for Magazines and Newspapers

12. Ability to Create and Delete Photo albums.

13. System wide Twitter Integration.

14. New Twitter keyboard with # and @ buttons.

153. Have one app updating while others say “waiting…,” then you pause the app updating. You then immediately put the iDevice on sleep. Next, when you wake up your iDevice, all of them will be paused. You can tap more than one app to have more than one downloading.

154. Personal Hotspot settings are now found under ‘Network’ settings.

GIFs are animated when sent through iMessages. It’s not animated in Photos.app.

iPod touches have never been able to automatically set time. This is now possible in iOS

161. If you tap hand hold the back button in safari (ipad) you get a list of all you previous sites.

162. Turning on private browsing changes Safari’s color from blue to black.

163. Auto-correct can be turned off independently of spell check

164. Add “Related People” to a contact (mother, father, brother, sister, child…)

According to the WWDC keynote, there are 200 features in the new iOS - so the community is close to finding all of them.

I’m excited to try these features out. The effort seems to be to streamline the experience as much as possible and have an incredible amount of customization options.
